Was this gun ever produced? A friend of mine claims to have found one at a show in Kentucky last week and knowing I am into rare smith's he got the guys number for me. I can't find any information of the gun ever being produced. After calling the seller it is, as described by the seller, a 3" 6 shot smith 686 lew horton, cocobolo grips, no box or papers. So, any info is appreciated because this is out of my realm of knowledge as I was unaware horton ever sold any 6 shot 686s. Thanks in advance. If this gun is legit, what is a fair price range?

I have seen them on Gunbroker...So they have been built..It should be a pre lock revolver...I would think anything under a grand is fair game..The grips should be combats I believe...

Good Luck

SCSW 3rd edition lists on page 271: product code 104212 - 2.5" S RB 1984 Lew Horton. Page 272: product code170010 - Carry Comp & Power Port Lew Horton Special. Those are the only two models listed as Possible Lew Hortons that match the barrel length. There are a Couple other 3" models listed that could match but were not Lew Hortons.

Just to clarify no lew Horton 3" 686 came with combat grips. There were several different varations of 3 inch 686 lew Horton guns made. Some with comps, some without, some with night sights, some without. Some 6 shot and some 7 shot. All pre-lock. Without the product number or picture, can not help you out with any info other than there are several lew Horton 686 3" guns that were made.

The Lew Horton company is still in business. My understanding is that you can call their toll free number or otherwise contact them and they will tell you if your gun is an authentic LH version.

Eric.

Thank you. You are correct. But I'm almost positive Lew Horton distributed a 2.5 Inch 686 with factory combats, just not a 3 inch with combats, nice catch on my post, the op stated 3 inch.

A 686-4 with a three inch barrel is very desirable on its own merits, a Lou Horton connection adds nothing IMO.

You are correct Jim/Eric. I have a 686 (no dash) 2.5 inch barrel, distributed by Lew Horton in 1984. It came with combat grips, and RR. The Product Code is 104212 and contrary to the SCSW, these guns did not come with a White Outline rear sight as the catalog states. At least not the examples that I know about. I too am not aware of a 3 inch, 686 no dash Lew Horton.

My LGS recently had a 6 shot 686 (can't remember engineering change) no lock with a 2.5" barrel and nice combat stocks priced at $681.00. I was not interested, so passed on it.
