If my 629 is a Lew Horton it is worth a lot more than if it is not. So I am asking for help.

I have already taken my model 629-6 snub nose to my favorite gun shop to be sold on consignment but did not give them a asking price. I promised to call them back in a few days.

If I have others to sell I will list them here following all the rules. However I have close to $7,000 in dental work right now.

***this not a covert offer to sell, I swear it***

I have been lazy. I did not even check to see if I had a box for the 629

I had been procrastinating so I was satisfied to merely get them to the shop. In fact I left 5 revolvers.

1 625-2 4" PC brand new, never shot. CRU52***
2 629-6 2.5" PC CUV8***
3 28-2 4" in either stainless or hard chrome. N31***
4 34 ND 2" 66***
5 36 ND 2" J75***

So, might this be a one of 300 Lew Horton Special? Thanks for any help.

It is hard to comment on your revolver without some photographs to let us know what you are actually referring to

My best guess is that you are referring to the 2 5/8" Ultimate Defense Revolver

I do not own one chambered in 44 Magnum but here is an image of the 41 Magnum version of the revolver

If this looks like your revolver then you are referring to product code 170135 and these were originally a Lew Horton Exclusive Offering that ended up becoming a cataloged firearm that is still offered today

The distributor records are currently in the possession of one of their former employees. That person would be able to confirm whether your revolver was one of the exclusives being offered or if it came after

It is a pain for me to get images my my phone to the forum. Hopefully with practice it will get easier.

Well at 77 years old I suppose I don't do too bad.

I did a quick search of the SCSW 5th Ed., and found that very few Model 629s were manufactured with 2-5/8" bbl. There were none listed as Lew Hortons (LH were mostly with 3" or longer barrels), although there were several Performance Center models. The only version like yours that I could find was the PC Model 629-6 re-released in 2010 with wood grips and the internal lock system. It was based upon the Model 629-5 Defensive Revolver (170135). Your triple-alpha serial number (CUV8xxx) corresponds to manufacture dates between 2013-2015. PC 629s were listed as 170135 (2-5/8" bbl, unfluted cylinder, 6 rds; 1999/2015-2019) and 170175 (2-5/8" Defensive Revolver, moon clips). I suspect that your revolver is not a Lew Horton, but a PC 170135 manufactured in 2015. However, I cannot claim to be an expert so hopefully some Forum gurus will chime in.

Thanks

That is as complete an answer as is possible. Many thanks! Any idea of value? I will try again to find a completed sale report from Gunbroker.

Hmmm, that's a tough question. New ones are selling for about $1200, so I would expect a VG condition used revolver to sell for $900 to $1K. If you could find the original box, that would increase the value somewhat.

I paid 1K for a 3" PC M629-5 that had exactly 6 shots (outside the factory) put thru it and then put into the back of a safe for 10-12 years. Box, lock, docs, Excellent condition back in 2019' I think it was. I put a set a OEM Morado flat sided combats on her and it is used as my "Woods Gun" for the NC Nantahala Forrest hikes and on Kayak fishing trips. I noticed it has the serial number underneath the top strap (easily seen with the cylinder unlocked and in the load/unload position.) It's trigger was/is fantastic out of the box in both DA/SA. I also shoot steel silhouettes with it out to 100 Yards. Great Revolver!

I'd ask $1200 on consignment and expect $1,000 without Lock, Box, Docs, etc... for what it's worth... for your PC revolver OP.

Pic was taken before the Morado style Combats... were installed. Pictured grips are Culina's in Goncalo Alves...

Good info and suggestions. I gave the shop a price of $1250 and I am almost positive the box and papers are in the garage.

And it doesn't show any signs of heavy usage. A 44mag N frame snubnose will have some kick to it. Most people woun't put more than a box or two through it.

Thanks again. When it sells I will post an update.

I love the look of those grips. I have/had similar on one of my revolvers.

I'll be glad when my should heals and I can get back to the range.

In 2017 Cabela's Columbus, Ohio had the 629-10 2 5/8 PC gun for $1499 in any of the 3 calibers. At another shop I bought a NIB that was everyday offered at $1099. I traded a worn out Tauras 5 shot 44 Special and $700 for the 629-10 (I figure I have around 850 in the S&W at this point. 240 grain JSP Factory ammo has a rather noticeable recoil! I find that 11 grains of Unique using a 240 SWC in 44 mag brass is far more manageable!

The weight is somewhat pronounced in a DeSantis "Thumb Break Scabbard" for 3" N-Frames on a stout 1.5" leather belt. At the end of the first 14-hour day, it was exhausting! By the end of a week, it was still noticeable but not distracting. I liked it so much I have both the Black and Tan examples. I use speed strips for a spare reload and carry the 6 round 44 mag strip in an 8 round 357 strip pouch on the left side of the belt. You could find those holsters for less than $40 OTD about 2 years ago, considerably less than the MSRP the local cop shop wanted ($65+/- plus tax).

Nothing in Ohio requires full 240 ammo, except when a mentally ill private zoo owner released all his animals in October 2011, then we had lions and bears roaming around, and to this day have occasional reports in the Muskingum County area.
