Need help from folks who have used Warne Rings in the past. I will be mounting a Leupold 2.5-8x32 scope on the gun and would like to know if I will be able to get 3 rings on this scope because I want it as solid as humanly possible. I will probably go with 2 tactical rings if not since the gun has the Picatinny rail. Here is the reply I received from Warne:

Shane,

There are many difficulties when it comes to mounting scopes on x frame revolvers. You could really go either way, and if you wanted the strongest ring we make, it would be the tactical rings. I typically recommend using 3 maxima rings, if they will fit. Most of the time, you are not able to fit 3 rings on the short tubes of handgun scopes. I would say 3 to 4 maxima rings are best, then 2 tactical rings, then 2 maxima. I don’t believe that you will be able to fit 3 maxima rings in the scope you have, so I would recommend the tactical rings. With that said, we like to tell customers who have x frame revolvers, don’t plan on the scope staying put forever, it is simply too much gun for the scope tube, and even if you are able to hold it in place, something will likely break or move in the future. Rest assured that our rings will hold the scope as well as a ring can hold a scope, the weak link is typically the scope. Many shooters (based on feedback) prefer a higher ring, purely for shooting comfort, but as long as the scope clears you should be fine with a medium tactical ring. The thing you have to clear is really the eyepiece over the top strap. Since our medium tactical rings sit a little bit higher than our Maxima rings, I believe they will clear, but the highs are a sure thing. I hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Best Regards,

Justyn Schmidt

I use 2 Warne midhieght rings with good results on both 500 and 460

There have been several post on this topic in the last year and pictures of guns can be seen in those post

I have seen these pictures and they, along with the posts have been what has influenced my decision. I think I have seen every post and video on the internet and was dead set on my purchase until I talked to a few people who said they had failures. I was unable to find out why exactly. I plan on having them professionally mounted though as I do not have a proper torque wrench. I went with the 603M high tactical rings. I got them off of eBay with free shipping way cheaper than I could find anywhere else new. Hopefully I can get by with just 2 since I was aware the tactical are the strongest ones they make. Thanks for the replies fellas.

That is a wise choice..I don't have all the stuff to do proper gunsmithing either and had mine all done by my LGS....I just feel better knowing it's done right. Good Luck and Enjoy!

I have the exact gun, scope, and rings. I got the same answer from Warne. I got 3 rings on with no problem at all and the setup works great. Not a ton of rounds through the gun yet, but no movement AT ALL. Just FYI Warne's testing was using the 500 with 8" barrel. They said plan on only getting 60 or so rounds trough the gun before you need to rezero. That has proven wrong at least for me. I haven't touched a thing. They also said the big issue with the X Frame was crushing the scope tube, not the rings. When pinned downed, the guy I talked to said the Luepold was the best, the Burris, the worst.

well, I have 2 tactical for now until I get a chance to get more. I would definitely like a 3rd up front if it fits. sucks I can't just buy 1 extra mount...lol

thank you very much for your reply.
