Desantis clip grip?
I purchased my model 36 yesterday and was looking for some new grips. I saw the dasantis clip grip and was wondering if anyone here uses them and general thoughts on them. I have pachmayr grips on it now buy I noticed they are cracked at the butt.

They come on the 637PC wyatt deep cover, the hard plastic is pretty annoying to grip and awful to shoot even compared to the standard s&w rubber 2 finger boot grip but I have kept them on there to mexican carry it just because it's so quick and easy as I have other J's to pocket carry in a Desantis superfly. I wouldn't use the clip grip as a primary way to carry my normal J BUG if I didn't have those other options.
My opinion, the Pachmayr compacs (if you need a covered backstrap) or the Hogue bantams (if you don't) are the way to go on concealable J's unless you want a laser grip, then it's the CT 405.

I have the Pachmyr compacs now but they are starting to split, maybe I'll just get more.

I have found the DeSantis version of the clip-grip to be the only ones that don't bury the gun so deep in the waistband that the gun becomes difficult to draw. They also do not interfere on the occasions you might want to use a holster. If a clip-grip is what you want, they beat the old Barami grips by a mile.

I've never seen a set of Pachmayr grips "crack at the butt". They are split and open up butterfly style to install, maybe that's the crack you noticed?
Of all the RB j-frame grips I've tried, I prefer Uncle Mike boots. Out of production but still available from S&W, Numrich, and on ebay etc.

Have 2 637PC Wyatts. Poster b_san is right-on about the grips. I kept the clip grips on one gun for the Mexican carry option 'to the mailbox' only. Do not believe this grip/carry is secure enough for all day use. Also impossible to tighten them enough to where they won't shift on the frame.
These grips are definitely not worth the $29.95 price as a separate option, as I've seen them advertised. Spring for another set of Pachs; seems the damage on yours was caused by another person opening them too far/harshly. Have always preferred the 2-separate halves style. Any chance of finding a 'tossed' set in the $1 bin/'junk box' at the LGS or range? Some cool stuff in these bins.

Actually you can't even notice it when the grips are installed. I only noticed it when removing them to check the serial. I haven't shot it with these grips yet, hopefully a trip to the range today and I'll know if I like them!

FWIW Numrich has some used Pachmayr Compacs for $9.25, I bought a pair for a buddy recently and they were in good shape. They also have used uncle mike boots for about a buck more, bought a couple of those and they were also in good shape.

I think the importance of a covered trigger is overplayed, unless you're carying a cocked and un-locked gun. My own IWB holster does have a covered trigger, but lots & lots of very good holsters (can you spell Threepersons?) don't.
IMHO that trigger stay thing is a fumble waiting to happen, in the event of a real "you bet your life" situation. Better than carrying with the S&W internal lock engaged, but not by much.

With this you get an inch and a half of spring steel holding it in place. My only concern would be if it might damage the finish. I guess you could clamp a little square pad of cloth (like t-shirt material maybe) between the clip and the sideplate to prevent it from marring the finish on your gun.

I never thought of that, maybe glue a stop off felt on the inside? I saw these but thought the exact same thing you did.
