I bought a set of K/L frame round butt grips from Smith and Wesson I think they were made by uncle mikes and love them. I want a set for my Mountain gun but it looks like they aren't made. Any ideas?
My model 25 Mountain Gun came with Ahfrends wood grips and I assume they are original to the revolver. Ahfrends web-site mentions they produced original grips for S&W.
They offer several wood choices and in at least two styles if I recall correctly. They are pretty much for round butt modified to square butt feel in the shooter's hand. Go to their web-site for the straight scoop and not my memory.
All N-round butt stocks fit the standard issue N-frame Mountain Guns. I've heard of people installing K/L round butts on them. I tried that on one of mine and was unhappy with the fit. Craig Spegel or Ahrends wood boot grips work best for me.
You are correct that, before their demise, the Uncle Mike's grips were never made for the N-Frame guns. They were also my favorites.
Tried Hogue and Pachmayr, neither of which worked for my hands.
Then I stumbled upon the new 629 factory grip.
Its very close to the size, shape and feel of the Uncle Mikes.
Both of my 625 target guns now wear them:

Recently added a new 617 to the flock. It came with a smaller K-Frame version of the 629 grip. For that one, I stuck with the Uncle Mikes, however:
