Well, the subject line says it all. I know that this is an S&W forum, so I suppose most of the recommendations are predictable. I personally own and like both Ruger and S&W revolvers, so I would appreciate honest comparisons for those who are familiar with either or both of these firearms.

I never liked the idea of a 357 in a j frame. I have an sp101 snub in 357 and love it. If I didn't have so many 357s already I think that the sp101 with 4" barrel in 357 would be a perfect kit/trail gun In that caliber-and I'm a BIG Smith fan!

I have to agree with Cajunlawyer... as big of a fan of S&W's as I am, I had to give the SP101 the nod.

It's somewhere between a J & K frame and feels just right.

Round off the edges on the hammer spur and trigger, polish the trigger face, throw in a Wolfe spring kit and after about 500 rounds when the lock work breaks in and becomes smoother, it becomes one nice gun.

Groo here
I have a 3in j, a3in 65 and a2in sp101.
The five shots can not be matched for slimness .
If you are using it for carry/ccw the m60 is the smallest, lightest.
If you intend to shoot 357 mostly, the sp 101 is easier to handle.
For a belt gun, it is what "feels" best.
I am starting to like the 3in m60 for around the farm, but
for a "real" belt gun the a 3in K/L/or N frame fills the bill.

SP101 wins, in my book.
It is really easy (and pretty nifty) to strip and clean, as well.
