Drywall anchor size for .22lr snap caps?
I'm sorry for this post I know it's a re-post, but I searched and could not find it! I bought some .22lr snap caps and now they're scarred (since they're aluminum) and don't sit right in the chamber. I remember seeing that there was a drywall anchor that fits perfectly (and they'd be cheaper!) and can't find it. So what size drywall anchor? Thanks all!

Hillman 4-6-8x7/8". Yellow ribbed anchors should do it!

They work incredibly well.
Just don't dry fire 100 times on one anchor.
Get a big box of #4 anchors

Guys they work Great. $12.00 for six snap caps. $4.29 for 100 drywall anchors.

I'm surprised someone hasn't repackaged them and put them on ebay as ".22 snap caps" at 5 times the price .

This is a photo of a drywall anchor with one hit from the firing pin. It dents quite easily. I usually rotate the anchors after one hit from the firing pin. This makes it so each hit has a fresh area of plastic to cushion the firing pin.

Home Depot.

The #6 anchors do work well if you keep rotating them but then again so do spent 22 cartridges. Either way, just don't keep dropping the hammer in the same spot.

I like the use of wall anchors. The blue A-Zoom rounds are labeled "Action Proving Rimfire Dummy Rounds". They should not be used for dry firing. They are designed to prove that an action (rifle or pistol) is functioning correctly. The Pachmayer .22 Rimfire Snapcaps are true snapcaps and can be used for dry firing.

The yellow ones from Ace Hardware are too small.

The Home Depot Everbilt brand work well in my revolver. Won't know about their their function in the SW22 Victory till it gets fixed.

The yellow Hillman 4-6-8 x 7/8" (H# 370326) that are available from Amazon seem to work just fine. They even feed semi-reliably from the magazine of a Ruger Mk ii (and eject very reliably).

In this day of ammo shortages I wanted to resurrect this thread (with thanks and a tip of the hat to Dale53 who dug it out for me.) I went by my neighborhood Ace Hardware today and they have boxes of 100 anchors, packages with anchors and screws, and in the bins they let you buy individual pieces for $.11 each. You need the yellow ones labeled #4-6 X 7/8. I used them in a couple of High Standards I needed to test today, but I’ll also be putting them in my K22 as well. And yes, they did feed through the Mag into the HS! I’m ready to dry fire my 22s!

PS Being bright yellow provides your snap caps another level of safety for you dry firing. Less chance of an AD.

I use empty 22's, heck, they're free at the range, and it's fun making them empty. I rotate them after a few hits. This is in a 617. Good luck!

It wouldn’t help us if they did. By their designed purpose, drywall anchors must have a hole in the middle, right where the firing pin needs to have a cushion. Your firing pin would “see” a drywall anchor in the chamber as being an empty chamber.
Nice thought though.
