got a 686-3 with a red dot mounted on a weaver rail that has 307 stamped on top. looking for a rear sight for it. called S&W and they said its not made or available by them anymore. they changed the rear sights for newer dash numbers. they gave me a number to call he had a used one for close to $100.00 I told him more than I wanted to spend on a used rear sight but would keep in mind. any one got any information or point me to a vendor that may have a OEM sight or some other rear sight. thanks for any info.

While well meaning this is not the sight needed for your gun! The N/S designates it is the "New Style" sight with the rounded front on the tang. The old style sights are obsolete but can often be found on E-bay or from after-market sellers.
Don't worry about getting the exact sight, all bases or leafs are the same and only the blade, correctly called the slide, is different. Get what you can and order the correct slide kit if necessary.
