Governor holster
Hey guys, newbie to the forums, but not to handguns.
I have a governor, I absolutely love it. But she has been neglected, I have put so much money into finding the right holster for my semi's that I realized the other day before I went out to the woods that all I have is an uncle mikes holster to carry her in. It's like Jennifer Anniston driving a pinto. It's not right.
My question is what you guys recommend, I want an OWB leather holster. I have narrowed it down to three primary (especially since they're in the budget range), but if you know of better please let me know. BTW this will occasionally be carried openly but 90% of this guns use is a sidearm for hunting, fishing, trapping, etc. so I would like secure retention so I don't lose it in the brush.
1) stoner holsters paddle holster

2) desantis speed scabbard belt loop - black

3) Tagua pd1 paddle with thumb break

I would prefer a paddle because of ease, but I like the fact that the desantis covers almost the entire gun (no scratching my baby), the Tagua has a thumb break but I'm really leaning towards the stoner holster for some reason.
Thanks for the help fellas!

I got mine from Kramer Leather and it is as fine a holster as I have for any gun I have. http://www.kramerleather.com/

I don't have a holster for my governor, currently. I started investigating back after I bought it (about a year ago now), but decided to put resources elsewhere since I didn't have a reason to carry it.
However, in general, and it's my opinion only - I'm just not a fan of paddle holsters. For OWB, I just feel more secure with a belt loop style. And for additional disclosure - I don't have much reason to have OWB style holsters.
So, in the end, not sure I'm giving you much, but I tried.

I have the Desantis in brown. Picked it up at Opticsplanet for a very reasonable price. It fits well, and seems very sturdy. Tight fit initially. I'd buy it again.

Thanks for the help guys! Never heard of Kramer but after checking them out I like them. Nice to know my state police issues their paddle holsters also.

I have the Desantis in black. I found it locally in a cut out bin (still new in package) for about $20.00 and decided to try it. I agree with your evaluation, and I too would buy it again (even at the going retail price).

I bought my Governor 6/13/11 and had the DeSantis holster from S&W Accessories within a week. I think it was ~ $70 with s&h & s/t.
The fit is great, as is the S&W/Hogue .500 Magnum/X-frame monogrip, which my Governor sported at the time. It helps with hot .410 PD loads - like Win PDX1, but is unnecessary for .410 birdshot or SAAMI spec'd .45 Colt & .45 ACP ball ammo. The OEM grips are fine for those loads.

i am a big fan of galco. got a combat master for about 85 bucks. that said, desantis is awesome. long lasting, good fitting. stay away from paddle on a gun this sized. i carry mine quite a bit in the owb galco. not sure if cobra gunleather is doing a holster for this beast yet, but i'd check them too.

I purchased a DeSantis holster, only in black to match my belt & shoes.
I don't wear it since I don't carry the Gov, but I was compelled to buy a holster for it.

I guess I'm going to need a holster as well. I just ordered a new Governor today. My first revolver.

For the ones with the desantis, do you think the retention is good enough for the brush? I could fathom a belt holster of it holds the gun good enough. Does it pull the gun tight enough for concealment? I'm a skinny guy with broad shoulders so a larger t shirt conceals my governor when I wear my IWB holster.

The Desantis is a very tight fit. I used the plastic bag method to loosen it a little, and it rides close to the side.

I concur. So yes, the Desantis holster should satisfy your requirements.

Thrillbilly382, information & pictures on your IWB holster please? Do you find it to be practical for a revolver this size?

IWB carry can be rather uncomfortable for a revolver this size. I have pulled it off but I would prefer OWB. Even with a thin holster my pants stick way out. I mostly open carry anyways unless I'm running errands with the wife, then I CC my sr40c. If you were dead set on IWB I would suggest a leather holster like stoner's 415 or something hybrid like this ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397321434.773920.jpg
(Can't remember who, but they DO make hybrid holsters for the governor at reasonable prices)
But your results may be different, I'm a tall "lanky" feller... This is what I work with when I CC the governor. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397321585.122168.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1397321654.422053.jpg
Hope I was some help to you. If you get a nice setup let me know and post some pics.

How is the retention? Would you trust it in the woods? Also does it hold decently tight to your body or flop all over the place.
It's between this holster or the desantis mentioned above but I would much rather a paddle for my personal situation. But I don't want to buy a separate holster for the woods.
Thanks for your time!

Almost forgot, what was the wait time like? They told me 10 weeks when I called them... Not to mention he tried to get me to buy another holster for $100 instead of this.

The retention is tight enough to prevent movement from inertia, such as preforming a take-down or taking a tumble. However, if you repeatedly shake it upside down, it will come loose. I also own the Desantis, and it is a tighter fit then the Stoner. Their paddle design rides low and is functional, keeping the sidearm snug to the body without being uncomfortable. Their holsters are awesome, and well worth the 2 1/2 month wait. I recommend purchasing the leather dressing with the holster if you do not already have some at home; the stuff works great.
