327 TRR8 M&P R8 differences?

Hi guys, Newbie here.

Is there a difference between the 8 shot .357 model 327 TRR8 and the M&P R8?

I see they are both Performance Center guns but the R8 is an M&P and the 327 TRR8 isn't. I was just wondering if they are different.

I know on the R8 the rail mount under the barrel is part of the barrel, it is all one piece, were as the TRR rail mount is an add on and can be taken off anytime you want it off. Of the 2, I want the R8

The front sight and the rear sight are also differents, as the rifling...(from what I have seen on these revolvers)
Front sight :
TTR8 Gold bead
R8 White dot
Rear sight :
TTR8 classical square sight
R8 V-notch sight

Rifling:
TTR8 classical rifling
R8 some kind of polygonal rifling

and R8 is a little bit heavier than TTR8...

(I own a R8)

Thanks for the info. I have the lgs on the lookout for a R8. I may just have them try an R8 or a 327 TRR8. There is just something I like about the R8 though.

I put a TRR8 on lay away is the R8 a better revolver between the two? Whats the difference between the rifling, why two different riflings then? Just wondering if I made a mistake and should have picked the R8? I was going to use it for hiking and bedside table duties.

I have heard that with the TRR regular rifling you can shoot cast bullets in it and with the R8's poly rifling it is not recommended. If someone knows for sure please let me know!

I shoot both lead (wadcutter) and jacketed bullets on a R8, no problem about that...
About the rifling, I've read in a hold thread that it was some EDM rifling instead of a polygonal rifling... I'm not very sure what it really means and implies. An expert could answer better...

Little new to the forums but from what I've read and observed

-Both R8 and TRR8 have the same barrels. Read on another thread that the whole different rifling thing wasn't true. Something along the lines of it not being cost effective to make 2 different barrels for the same gun

-Both appear to have the same v-notch rear sights but R8 has tritium front while TRR8 has a gold bead

-TRR8 has a cut out on the right hand side under the barrel lug showing the ejector rod while R8 has a full shroud covering the entire rod

-And as stated above R8 has attached bottom rail while TRR8 has removable bottom rail

Either should be an awesome gun just depends on the price. I've been looking for a TRR8 myself but for some reason despite both having the exact same msrp the TRR8 seems to cost a little more and is a little harder to find. Again information is just from what I've gleamed off the forum and my personal observations. Hope this helps.

I have thousands of 38 special rounds through it. No problem so far. I don't shoot .357 loads; this could make a difference. If the frame cracks. No problem! S&W will send me a new gun!

I have a TRR8 I bought for bowling pin matches. It's the first revolver I've ever been able to shoot well double-action. I used 158 grain moly-coated cast hollowpoints in .38 Special cases loaded to +P velocity.

This is the gun that made me fall in love with N-Frames. I use the iron sights, so I haven't mounted either of the Weaver rails. That's the main reason I chose the TRR8 over the R8. I'm VERY happy with the gold bead front sight.

According to S&W both models have standard rifling. I have a TRR8 and love it. Perfect bedside gun. 8 shot capacity and you can't limp wrist it. You may have to search a bit for holsters or have one custom made.

Hi guys, my R8 is for home defence, I did have a torch on it but am now looking for tritium sights. The s&w website doesn't seem to have any listed for the R8, does anyone here use them?

The TRR8 is a very cool gun. Read a review that stated the TRR8 was developed for SWAT teams for the lead SWAT member (the one holding the plastic shield). The purpose was to have a potent enough gun to shoot one handed and not have the slide action interfere or hit the shield as they are busting in.
