Two new snubbies
I blame you guys. In the last two weeks, I have bought two new snubbies. When the wife got upset, I told her it was the Forum's fault.
First, I found a 642 from the Performance Center that I just had to have. The hang tag said it had trigger work, and when I compared it to a standard 642, it was smoother. It was only about $70 more, so I bought it.
Today, I went to a gun show for the first time in a few years. As has become normal for shows, I didn't see any guns that I really liked that weren't priced as if they had gold plated chambers. I did pick up a Spyderco knife and some 45 Auto Rim though.
After leaving, I stopped at a gun store that is normally a bit out of my way looking for some Crimson Trace grips. Making my way to the back of the store, I passed the Smith display cases and stopped to look. Sitting on the shelf was a 2" Model 64-2 that needed a little TLC. The mechanics were good though. It locked up tight and didn't have any push off. The trigger is as smooth as any I've seen. It was priced at $350, and after seeing the inflated gun show prices, I jumped on it.
Here they are together... my two new snubbies!

Very nice. I particularly like the 2" 64-2. Cool.

Nice score. The air weight Centennial J for the pocket and a 2" K. Don't get any better.

It was just good luck. I had seen a 2" Model 15 at the show, but it was more than I was willing to spend, and it was more of a collector than a shooter. I think the previous owner had used the 64 as a carry gun based on the condition of the cylinder latch side of the gun and the wear on the Pachmayer Compact Pros.
A little time with Rem Oil removed the rust, and some Flitz and 2000 grit sandpaper buffed out a lot of the light pitting. A collector model she ain't... but that's okay as I intend to carry her anyway. With some wear, I won't feel bad if I add a few scratches.

Well how in the world did you get by blaming this on these nice forum members?

FYI, I don't know how they compare to store prices, but on Crimson Trace's web site, they are currently having Father's Day Sale.

First thing I thought, one on the belt and one in a pocket. They make a rather handsome couple.

Those were my thoughts exactly. My L and N frames work well in cooler weather, and I was carrying them the last few summers, but it gets tiresome. The 642 carries well in shorts pockets, and the 64 should be easier than the bigger guns. I am pretty excited about them!
