Pricing guns for sale?
I am interested in selling a few of my PC revolvers and want to set a fair price. I know that I should not expect to get retail for them because I bought them new. However, I do not want to get hosed. Went to a LGS and was offered about 50% of book value. What is a FAIR deal? I want to send good karma into the S&W world.
Thanks
John

Selling to a LGS is selling wholesale.
The LGS will give you 50-60% of retail.
They have to pay utilities and rent too.

We will need specifics if you want a specific price. Few gun shops seem to have the expertise to deal in used guns and some do not even try.
Once you determine a fair price you may want to put an ad in the local paper or, perhaps, give the ARMSLIST webite a try to sell it locally. Walking it through a gunshow may get you some cash as well.

On a used shooting gun (non collectables), I price them between 65% and 80% for a nearly new gun. Less for additional wear. I then expect to take a little less.

Depending which revolvers you own, you selling price spread could be anywhere in the -20% to +50% of retail. Sell them on your own, and keep the proceeds.

So true. But, my PCs range from $750-1400 new. They haven't been fired more than 50 rounds each. The 629- 12 rounds. So it's kinda hard to let it go for $450. The others are 327 super snub, 386NG and a 686+ snub.

Why? How much more do you think you should make? Depending you what you have, and when you bought them, they may have appreciated in value.

put em up
One thing to remember. You can always come down to an acceptable offer. Going up is a little harder. Ask what you want, say you are open to offers and they will come. Try it local and save yourself the cost of middlemen where applicable. Don't be quick to take the first offer, there are many buyers in the market and you have the goods. Each time I'm tempted to sell a piece I always try to imagine the effort and funds I would have to expend to replace it. rs

I look at Gun Broker to get an idea to price guns. Don't look at what they are listed for, but what they actually sell for. You can also look at the pics for condition comparison. I have had luck at shows and Armslist. S&W Forum for sale posting can work for you if you choose. People here appreciate them, and are happy to get them. Bob

Agree with looking at "selling" prices on Gunbroker, Gunauction and other sites. Be sure to note you are looking at the exact model(s)/variation(s)/feature(s) of your particular guns; a a slight difference in barrel length, finish and the absence/presence of the internal lock can change the value significantly.
Once you have their values solidly established the Forum is a good place to sell. Good luck in your decision.
