Today not including the one that has not been shipped yet I have purchased four or five sets of Ultima grips for various Smith & Wesson revolvers and 1911's. The first couple sets looked and felt great I was extremely happy with them I got them in a timely manner. The last few times that I'm trying to make an order there out of everything except Silver black. So now if you order a sandwich from Altamont you can either wait a month to possibly get it shipped or you can let them switcher order to silver black and whatever style that you ordered to get it now.
I think I just need to find another place to buy grips for my Smith & Wesson guns.

If we called out every vendor that was swamped, who would be left?

For a year? Every order? Only silver black grips?

I'm guessing they sell them to their suppliers first. This is why I never buy factory direct. I can order them off of eBay and have them at my house the same week. On eBay they're not always under the altamont name but just search for something like j frame boot grip or whatever. HTH

I'm thinking nobody wants SB so they must have them laying around in all styles. They aren't too bad but that's not the point.

I ordered two sets direct a couple days ago and picked from the ones that indicated being "in stock". There were adequate choices and I was happy with my pick. We'll see how that goes.

Odd . . .

I did some of my 2013 Christmas shopping on the Altamont website. Rosewood is my weakness and everything arrived very quickly. One of the grips had a funny streak of clear material in it and was replaced in less than two weeks. I registered my complaint and mentioned that it was a Christmas present via email. They shipped the replacement grip and a label to return the original on their dime and didn't bother to charge my card for anything.

I will be back. :)

I was just about to place an order with them, but I think it might be wiser to wait and see how this goes for you. Good Luck and keep us updated! :)

I like the holster. Safariland?

The silver/black are the best looking ones anyway, the walnut is ok but I really dislike rosewood.

Thanks! This thread actually got me to order THREE new stocks from Altamont. A Silver Black finger-groove wrap around with the Oak Leaf checkering for my 1911, and two Rosewood Combat stocks. One checkered and one smooth for my 649 and 638. I have a set of Rosewood stocks from them now and the fit and finish are extremely good. No problem getting some more as far as I am concerned.

Plus they are purdy.

I ordered some SB j frame grips from them about 3 months ago (in bonded Ivory/S&W emblems) and received them in about a week. I was a bit surprised that they were that fast. I dunno, maybe I was lucky?

I've ordered a number of grips from Altamont, both revolver and 1911. I got good service from them, until the last order. I ordered a set of white composite grips for a 1911 with the Navy emblem in them. What I got looked like a 3rd grader had done it in crayon, and the ink was even smeared outside of the lines of the emblem onto the grips. I called them and asked for a replacement, and they were less than courteous about it (I was not discourteous.) They simply told me to ship them back and they'd look at them...they didn't offer a shipping label. So, I mailed them back with a note, explaining my dissatisfaction, and asking for the same grip, only done better. A week or so later, a credit appeared on my credit card for the charge. I've heard nothing else from them, and this has been a couple of years ago now...so, I assume they don't want my business, which is good, because they aren't getting it.

Happy Altamont Customer!

JLDuke,
As always, Grips on their favorite revolver or pistol is a personal choice. SilverBlack was never a first choice for any of my latest purchases, but I have come to learn that they are quite an interesting look on a stainless frame with black leather!
I was slow to appreciate the difference, having a small investment in Super Rosewood grips that I am quite fond of!

The suggestions of using alternate sources of Altamont grips has helped me stay happy with my choices!

Good Luck in Your Search!

Yes, sir. Safariland Model 568 "Molded Custom Fit Pistol Holster" with paddle, mostly used when riding my mountain bike over to the range.

The semi-transparent sweat shield is just a piece of plastic cut from a polypropylene CD case and sandwiched between the paddle and holster using the original paddle mounting screws.

I have had it long enough to know that it works very well for me.
