J Frame Grip Weights? Bantams/ Monogrip / Compac / Compac Pro / Gripper
Hey guys, do you know how much the rubber J Frame grips weigh? I'm trying to decide on the best balance of recoil control and concealability for me. I happen to have a Pachmayr Gripper which is excellent but heavy at 4.2oz. How much do the following grips weigh?
Hogue Bantams:
Hogue Monogrip:
Pachmayr Compacs:
Pachmayr Compac Pro (No backstrap):
Pachmayr Gripper 4.2oz:
Thanks!

The rubber Bantam is the lightest you'll find. There is an older thread here somewhere where various J-frame grip weights are discussed in detail.

I'm that older thread! So I'm not the only one who thinks about things like this! While I do not follow your exact pattern, here are my findings from a jewelry scale:
Uncle Mike's boot: 59.8 gr - 2.1oz
S&W boot: 46.8gr - 1.64oz
Hogue Bantam boot: 36.6gr - 1.3oz
S&W larger rubber J-grip: 53.6gr - 1.9oz
And just for fun, although not rubber:
S&W wood "peanut" Magna grip: 26.2gr - .92oz
PLUS Tyler T-grip adapter: 39.5gr - 1.4oz
Hope this helps. Please shoot me a "like" so I know you read this.

Ahh that's right, I did read your older post too but it didn't cover all the grips I was talking about. Let's combine forces, I'm interested in all grip weights. I'm still Looking for Hogue Monogrip / Pach Compac / Pach Compac Pro / and Houge Tamers. Any other grip weights are of interest as well.

Trying to get out the door... Pach Compacs run about 4oz, at least the ones I measured back in the early 80s did. Pachs have a metal liner which makes them so heavy (for a snub gun). The Sile rubber finger groove grips, no longer available, had a fiberglass insert which gave them about 1/2 the weight of the Pachs.
Best I can do.

I think how the grip fits the gun frame and your hand is more important than weight, unless that weight is excessive. The Gripper is too much of a good thing on a concealment gun. It dwarfs most J-frame snubs.
But the basic Pachmayr Presentation Compac is my favorite grip for these guns.

No idea what the Pachmayr Compacs weigh, but I've pocket-carried them daily for fifteen years on a steel J-frame and love them.
Weight is just not the primary consideration for me in choosing grips. A good, strong, comfortable hold is.

Weighed my Pachmayer Compac's and they are coming in at 4.3 ozs, but I have shaved some rubber off to allow speed loaders to clear.
Edit: not to sure how accurate my postal scale is though.
Pocket carry a 642 with them everyday and no discomfort when walking, now running can be another story.
How well a handgun shoots is more important to me than looks and if that easier shooting comes with a little more weight, that's fine with me.

Are those regular Compacs and not Compac pros (no backstrap)? Interesting that your Compacs weigh the same as my full size Grippers. I have a fishing scale which may not be 100% accurate.

My Pachmayer Compac's are coming in at 4.4 ozs on a standard postal scale. I like them but they get a little sticky here in the hot weather. A dusting of talc power helps that.

They are the regular Compac's. (covers the backstrap.)
My scale could very well be off as well.

I have no way to weigh my hogue Tamers, but they have got to be among the lightest. I've tried almost every j frame grip out there and they are lightweight. Not a gram of metal in 'em:
Nice to hold on to as well. High backstrap and pinky finger position makes for an easy to shoot j frame. 10 shots at 7 yards.

Nice tamers! If only they'd fit my model 36.

After calling Hogue they said I should be able to fit Tamers on my Model 36 J frame with the Centenial spacer in the grip. I expect I may have to cut it down a bit. I'm taking the plunge.
