Default My new favorite handgun

So I was never actually looking for 629-1 3", but found this little guy at a LGS marked @ $649...gee what should I do? While not actually interested in 3" .44 (I now realize that's insane), I was aware of the value in this deal, so I snapped it up.

I very recently got into reloading and churned out a whole mess of 200gr plated round nose on top of Hodgdon Clays in a 44 Mag case. That makes for 44 Special / 45 ACP ballistics. The result is I don't have the extra soot ring in the chamber left by special cases, and I have a round I can literally shoot all day.

The double action is extremely smooth. It points like any 3" ought to, and the loads mentioned above in this gun feel like 148gr LWC's in a .38 K frame. Fifty rounds produce a golf ball hole in the target at 10 yards. I just can't say enough how awesome this piece is.

Tom,
That was acquired from Hiller Sports in Norwalk. Towards the back of the display case the guns are pretty bunched up. I didn't even see this one in there, and if the sales person hadn't gotten it out and suggest I look at, I doubt I would have found it.

You'll love it. At that price, it was a steal.

Congratulations!

That is something that has been on my want list for a while! The closest I could get is a 625JM. ( I really like that ) Great find! Bob

As in Norwalk CT. Cool! Another place to add to the list of hunting spots!

Nice 629, SLT223! I do like the stainless wheel guns!

If you have a variety of different guns, it is quite hard to pick an overall favorite. There are reasons you like J's, K's, L's N's etc. I'm glad I don't have to decide! Bob

That is one smoking hot deal. Looks to be in great shape, congratulations. I just picked up a Horton 3"-1, and paid the going rate. I would've pulled a muscle in the shoulder going for my wallet at that price
Glad your enjoying it.
