Default Color difference in 640 no dash original grips?

Can anyone shed a light on the story behind the color difference in no dash model 640 grips?

I've seen them look kind of walnut/mahogany before:

As well as more traditional smith and wesson shaded:

Is this just a trick of lighting? Or did one run have a variance in wood?

Thanks,

David

I believe they are made with Goncalo Alves strain of wood, I have seen some even on the n frames as orange as a pumpkin or almost blonde. I am thinking it is just the cut of wood.

There are tremendous variations in wood, and especially the kind of wood used by S&W for revolvers. I might think due to the backgrounds, some of that variation might be due to the lighting.

Normal variation, I think. These were made from "Morado" wood from what I recall.
