I came across a real odd ball yesterday. I found a 625-11. It's a snubby built on a lightweight frame and stainless cylinder with nice looking "packing" grips. The thought of a 6 shot, big bore snubby, and packing gun got my attention.

What kind of price on this gun would be reasonable? Or, what is the current going price?

Thanks

Several years ago, Mark's here in B'ham had one of the PC Shop 625-11 new for ~$950. It is basically the 625-10, which came with a shorter .45 ACP SS cylinder and 2.1" barrel. It had '45' & 'ACP' in two lines, the barrel was so short, while the 625-11 had '45' & 'CLT' in two lines. The 625-10 has an alloy yoke - I am not sure about the 625-11. It appears to have the SS cylinder - lengthened for the .45 Colt. Weighs 25 oz. Came with the short wood grip, which would reveal a lanyard pin, and a regular rubber grip in a locking PC case.

A friend bought the 625-10 new some years back. It was after it's '03 SHOT Show intro, of course, but not by much. He brought it to the range once - tried gloves - and decided it was 'too much' with just 230gr ball ammo. I saw it in the pusher's used case for $525 - left to ponder it - came back in an hour to get it and, of course, it was gone. The same thing happened with the 615-11 - I wasn't intended to have either, I suppose.

One thing to consider - other than the 25 & 625 Mountain Guns, S&W hasn't made a .45 Colt since the Heritage series in '01. It will likely kick a bit, even with 'cowboy' plinker lead. With Blazer 200gr high speed Gold Dot (1,100 fps) rounds, it'll likely look like a flamethrower. The Speer 250gr low speed Gold Dots (Speer #4484 bullet), you'll likely be better protected - but I bet it's a handful.

I'm guessing, in today's market, it could run from $500-$800 in good shape and be considered fair. Good luck!

The 625-10 and 625-11 were Performance Center guns built on a “Scandium” (aluminum alloy) fixed sight round butt N frame with a “V- groove” rear sight. Both have a front ball detent lock-up, a trigger stop and a stainless steel cylinder. The 625-10 was chambered in .45 ACP and the 625-11 in .45 Colt. The grips are checkered Eagle brand Secret Service. These guns were limited production with the original MSRP around $1000. I would think $700-$800 is a good price on a nice used one and I’ve seen NIB examples go for around $1500 on GB (typically around $1000-$1100). I believe fewer 625-11’s were built than 625-10’s.

I had a 625-10 and the frame cracked while shooting. I loved that gun. Examine the area below the barrel closely before purchasing, but don’t let that scare you off. It’s covered under the S&W lifetime warranty and their customer service is superb. Unfortunately, the frame is no longer in production and other fixed sight N frames won’t interchange because of the depth of the V- groove rear sight. S&W offered my choice of any other PC gun in stock and I took a PC 945-1 as a replacement (a very good trade). If I found another 625-10 or a 625-11 for $800 or less I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the info. Yesterday, on my travels, I had lunch with a cousin who I haven't seen in a while. He told me about this "goofy" S&W he had seen at a pawn shop in Manchester, TN. I past by there on my way home and saw that it was the 625-11. I didn't know the significance of the gun at the time, or I would have bought it.

The gun shop was nearly two hours away from my house and only 1/2 hr away from him. I called him about the gun. He did his own research and went and bought the gun this morning. He paid $750 out the door. I think he did good. It is certainly a unique packin' piece.

He can't find any ammo in 45 Colt, but I have "several" rounds loaded. There might be a little trading going on in the near future.

Good day.

45 Colt :-)

The clear coated 625-10s were introduced in 2003. 300 if I recall.

The black 625-10s came out in 2004. I recall 200 of these.

The clear coated 625-11s were produced in 2005. Only 103 were manufactured I loved mine so much, I picked up a NY reload. I almost bought a third one, it would have given me a consecutive pair, but the seller was asking $1,200 for it used. I was just not willing to go that high.
