The first 2 pics are of the blast shield on one of my 386 Night Guards. As you can see the blast shield is bent down and pressed together.

The third picture is of my 386PD and you can see the blast shield is correct.

Not only is the blast shield bent and pressed together on my Night Guard, I am also able to move it side to side quite freely for a fraction of an inch with my fingers. It also slides around that fraction of an inch when the gun is handled. You cannot do that with the correct one in the third picture.

The 386NG just came back from SW to have the timing fixed and I asked them to look at the Blast Shield as well. Maybe they forgot? Maybe they didn't think it was a problem? What do you guys think?

I bought the gun a couple of months ago and it maybe had a box of ammo through it, and not a mark on it. It was basically new in the box.

OP UPDATE

Just before I posted this thread I sent an email with the pics to the CS rep at S&W who was handling my case. Right after I posted this thread I had two responses in my inbox from the S&W Rep. It appears it was looked at by the gunsmith.

Here are her virtually instant responses (I have to say their CS has been excellent!):

FIRST RESPONSE:

"I did it bring it to their attention when we spoke last. I’ll show your pictures to the technician and see why it wasn’t addressed. I’ll be in touch with you sometime today."

SECOND RESPONSE:

"I showed your pictures to a technician and based off your pictures your firearm looks as though it’s good to go. Sometimes what happens with the blast shield is that some of them will look like they go up like in the third picture and some will look like they go down. This in no way means your firearm is damaged or that it will affect the functionality of the firearm in anyways. If you would like further information regarding this gun you will have to call customer service and ask for the assistance of a technician so we can further assist you."

I think I am satisfied with this response, would you guys be?

Does look funky, but if the Mothership says it won't affect function, reliability, or longevity I don't have any evidence to say otherwise.

I noticed the blast shield in an earlier post of yours & thought it looked odd. The ones I have are flat centered & in tight If they all come loose & tilted no big deal but they don't. I would want mine to be right to protect the top strap from flame cutting the scandium frame.

While S&W says it's within factory spec, I suspect anyone reading this thread would discount the value of your revolver when valuing it for resale.

Said another way, your 'in spec' revolver is worth less than another revolver of the same model which is more 'in spec'.
