Let's See Pictures of Your Favorite S&W .357 revolver
Who am I kidding. Please post a picture of any Smith & Wesson .357 and any story or description that you would like. Thanks in advance, Rick

This 28-2 is my current favorite 357 magnum.
But I have a 19-4 in the dealer safe waiting out the CA 10 day period. So we will see which "wins"
The guy I bought this from said it was a CHP officer's duty gun way back.
It has honest holster wear, but it's tight and shoots like a dream.

Really? This is like asking to pick your favorite child. The biggest part of my collection is 357 mag revolvers but I guess I'd have to go with a 4" L-frame like the 581 or 586:
Or maybe the 4" 686 CS1:

This is my favorite because I just got it TODAY! (Actually, I got to see it first hand today, it's still in Purgatory with my FFL while I wait two days to take possession). It's a 6-inch M686-4 Powerport, product code 104272, made in 1994. I'm really diggin' it. Sweet trigger and smooth action. Has not seen much use (like many ported guns). Traded a member here for a safe queen Ruger Hunter that I bought new in 2001 and never shot (I have another identical one that I do shoot):

My .357's are either j frames, or j frame size. This is my newest one and it's just a sweetheart to shoot. Heavy enough that factory .357 is manageable but light enough to stick in the pocket occasionally. I normally load above +p, but below .357 mag for it for range fun. Love this little gun.

For N frames it's tossup between the 627s. They're both a pleasure to shoot, but the slab side balances better, and the V-Comp just looks bad ***.
For Ks, it's the 66-4...it also balances well and has a very sweet trigger job.

Model 19-4 in Factory Nickel that was fired three times at the factory and never again. It was a departmental gift to a retiring LE Sergeant who took it home from the ceremony, placed it in his closet and never touched it again. I purchased it in the original box still wrapped in the original paper.
As much as I would really love to, I simply cannot bring myself to shoot it. I have other shooter grade 19's for that.

Well, between Model 66s and 686s, I have around a dozen .357s but this one has to be my favorite. The first photo is as I bought it four months ago, in need of some cleaning and wearing its factory stocks.
Like many people, I love the look of the correct stocks on an S&W revolver but also like many people, don't find many of S&W's wood stocks comfortable so after giving it a bath, I installed some inexpensive yet attractive and surprisingly well-made imported stocks that are super comfortable.
As the side plate engraving under the cylinder states, there were 500 of these made for a distributor in 1989. They had 5" barrels, unfluted cylinders and some specific engravings. The actions were supposedly hand fitted; some mentions of the gun include that feature while others do not but mine has the best action of any S&W I own.
I think it's hard to find an S&W .357 in any frame size that isn't a favorite!

Well, I've shown this picture before, but to answer today's question, the lower gun, which began life as a 4" Model 66, used to be my favorite S&W 357 revolver until it volunteered to boldly go where few guns had gone before and have its caliber changed to 327 FM. At that point, I was 357-less and asked myself "what would be perfect all-around 357 for me to buy now and keep for a long time?" The upper gun in the picture, a 6" Model 686 (no dash, no M) was my personal answer to that question. YMMV!

1958 vintage Model 19.
The "story"......Graduated from the Police Academy 9/72.
We all purchased new S&W model 19's and a belly gun, normally a S&W 36,37 etc.
The second magnum round outta my 19 froze it up.
Range Lt. had it fixed in 5 minutes and advised "Don't Worry about it".
Well,.. I did worry about it. This rookie did not like the idea a packin a new gun that just locked up.
About a month later I told the above story to an old copper I was riding with.
We swung by his house and went to his safe.
His only remark was .."They don't make like this anymore....pay me back when you can"($75.00).
Sold my 19 to my neighbor, advising him of the details.
Paid off the old copper.
The neighbor shot the snot out of that "new" 19 with nary a problem.
At that time I new nothing of 5 ,4, 3 "Screw" Smiths.

That's a tough choice but I would probably have to choose this pre27
Sorry I just realized this is in the 1980 to present section. Probably shouldn't have posted it but it is still my favorite 357.

Stumbled upon this one while checking out a new local range. I knew it had a nice combination of sought after features, but had no idea what the current pricing was like, or the rarity of a nickel five screw in such a condition.

With the shootin' grips:

...and the fancy holster:

Turns out it shoots okay, too...
People thought I was dumb to not double or triple my money on selling it. With it shooting as nice as it does, it's not going anywhere.
I've lusted after such guns since I was a kid. I passed a couple 27's before this one and glad I did. This was certainly the one to have.

Since it was Skeeter's favorite, why should it not be mine!

28-2 NIB
This is my 28-2 NIB unfired and in 100%00 condition. As you can see there isn't even a mild turn line. Sure, I wish it were a more desired model, but I got this in this condition and kept it there. I have another I take to the range that didn't come with the original box, paperwork and tools and I love it. This one has all original box, paperwork and tools. The box is only in about 85% condition, but the revolver looks like it did the day it was born. I have other Smiths, but this one for some reason is my favorite and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Have several, these are my two favorite...
Model 19 K-Comp - Going to D&L for their fixed sight conversion
Model 586 7-shot L-Comp - superb combination of power, size, comfort and controllability
Model 66-4 - Going to D&L for their fixed sight conversion
Ruger SP101 - Not a Smith but what a superb gun for the price
