I am soon to be the new owner of a 340pd. I'm sure I'm going to want some Hogue or Pachmayr grips to replace the factory grips but I've been unable to find out on forums or at dealers if the J-frame grips from hogue or pachmayr will fit this gun. I know it comes with tool for removing the factory grips but not sure about the replacements. I'm new member to forum and look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

Its a standard J frame. I have crimson trace grips on mine and they really help with recoil, which you will find out about real quick with this gun. welcome to the forum

Pachmayr Compacs would be my choice. Cover the backstrap, give a high hold, offer purchase for the little finger unless you have gigantic hands. I don't find them hard to conceal, and mine have never grabbed on clothing.

Another vote for the Pachmayr Compac grips. Does help in taming the .357 recoil out of my M&P 360.

The Hogue Tamers would be my first choice on a 340. They are very comfortable and offer a full grip. Here they are on my 442.

Here is what I've settled on for pocket carry; classic Magnas with a Tyler T-Grip.

I own 8 J frames. The one grip that fits my hand perfectly, has perfect ergonomics for the little J Frame is the Ahrends Grip.

If you get it in walnut or maple, it is also the absolute lightest grip you can get for a J Frame. Well under 1oz. I think the weight is very important, you have an extremely light gun, why weigh it down with a heavy grip. Some of the grips pictured above weigh as much as 3 or 4 ozs! Totally defeats the purpose of having a light gun.

It is also very aesthetically pleasing in my opinion.

Here is the Ahrends in Cocobolo on my M&P340:

These are what Smith shipped on my M60. I think they also come on the 640.

They also cover the back strap, and are available from S&W on-line. I bought an extra set for my 642.

I like them.

I really appreciate all the helpful tips on these grips. Really pleased to know that it takes the standard j-frame grips. That opens up a wealth of alternatives for me to try.

Thanks to all of you that responded to my first post. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go along the revolver journey.
