need advise on GB model 26-1
There is a nib S&W 26-1 on gun broker starting at $1200 buy it now $1500. I like .45 Colt and I also like the 5 inch barrel and the lanyard ring is just icing on the cake. What do you expert Gentlemen think about this one, do I bid or bite the bullet and buy it now?
Thanks, Jack
PS. 2015 is 16 days old and I haven't bought a single gun yet!

My condolences. I’ve already bought a 10-5 and a 28-2 in 2015, but not on gunbroker.
Like 95% of gunbroker listings, it sounds high to me. But, then, I’m a cheapskate anyway.

I have two 26-1's and they are excellent revolvers.

Be patient. If you're convinced the gun is worth $1200, place a bid for the minimum and watch the auction. You can always raise your bid. If you don't win it, another one will come along. The hunt is half the fun. I am not a fan of commemorative guns. They are more sales gimmicks, than valuable collector models. If you're buying it for collector value, keep your expectations of future value realistic. That being said, it is a 5" model in 45Colt, and you don't see those every day. Good luck.

Sometimes the fact that it is a commemorative or "special" can actually work for you and keep the price reasonable. I bought a "special" 27-5 on 1-2-15 off GB for $730 delivered because it was part of the "12 Revolvers" set of 1990 and was unfired as far as I could tell except for the proof rounds S&W shoots before shipping. It was unusual in that while it is a later revision of the 27, it has a recessed cylinder and also came with a gold bead patridge front sight with a 6 1/2" barrel. It also came with about as good a lockup and sweet trigger pull for a new pistol as I've ever seen too. I cured the "unfired" problem earlier this week and ran almost 300 rounds of 357 through it and it is a really sweet shooter. It also came with the original box and unused tools and paperwork.
As for the pricing, that sounds a little bit high for my blood, but still within my buying bounds if I really want it badly. I've been looking at 3 1/2" and 4" barrel 27-2's lately to help fill out that size barrel in my 27 collection. And they seem to run quite a bit higher than the 6 - 6 1/2" barrel models.

I've seen a couple of them in last year sell for much less (than the opening bid that you refer to).
Here's a Forum reference also:
I'm sorry. Again.

Many Thanks for the replies Gents , I`ll keep my eyes open. The hunt is half of the fun. I have only recently joined the .45 Colt ranks, and it is rapidly becoming my favorite caliber. So far I have a S&W model 25-15, two Colt SAAs and a Henry Big Boy. I like to pay fair market value for my stuff and do not begrudge someone getting a decent price for their goods, but I sure do not enjoy overpaying ! Buyers remorse is a long lasting bad taste and ruins the ownership of what ever it is.

Now I`m back with more questions, There is a S&W model 625-5 5 inch on Gun broker it is one of 1500 special dealer items. I like it as much as the model 26-1, so which one do I pursue? It looks like they will both be expensive.
