I was lookin around ebay wanting a pair of the old Uncle Mikes j frame combat grips to put on my 640 for range shooting and was surprised to find a couple pairs listed at "buy it now" prices of 50 bucks.....wow. Are they really worth that kind of money or are these guys just shootin for the moon.......Mike

Honestly I think they are the best for j frames although not very appealing to the eye. I just switched to using them cause my 637 with +P really bites. Here's proof

I really mourn Uncle Mikes getting out of the grip business.

The material they used was great, plenty of grip when shooting, but not as "sticky" as the Pachmayers when it came to grabbing clothing. All their models were also compact both side to side (unlike pachmayers which always seem too fat) and in length (unlike Hogue, which needs length of the odd retention system they favor).

Wish I had bought half a dozen of their J-frame Spegal copy (which I think was actually authorized?), and regular K/L Square and round butt grips when they were still around. :(

I have had a pair listed on the forum here for 3 weeks for $30. They just sold last night. I actually let them go for $20 because the guy bought them along with a $175 Crimson Trace grip I had in the same ad.

They are so expensive because they have been discontinued. Yes people do pay $50 for them.

You should always check the forum here first for S&W stuff.

Personally I think the UM Boot grips are way too heavy for a small light gun. Plus rubber grips do not work for me. They stick to everything and expose my carry piece all the time. That is why I only use wood grips on my guns. Altamont and Ahrends have some excellent options. Many of which weigh around 1 oz. The UM Boot grips weigh over 3 ozs! Makes a big difference when you are putting them on an 11 oz to 15 oz J Frame.

LOL, I snagged one of those sets yesterday, yes, pricey, but I've been looking for a set for my 60-14 for a while. No luck locally, so I bit the bullet, so to speak.

Also ordered a set of S&W wood combats for not much more.

These things are funny. Just a few months ago these were $15 grips, the same as any other UM grips. What happens is someone decides to list a set for $50+ and, miraculously, someone buys them. Another seller sees this and prices his at $50+, too, and, as crazy as it is, manages to sell a few. Next thing you know everyone's selling them at $50+ and people begin buying them thinking they're suddenly scarce and valuable and it spirals from there. Don't be surprised to see a set of Uncle Mike's rubber grips hitting $100+ on the auction sites before the madness subsides.

Some folks will remember the same thing happened a few years ago with Tyler T-Grips, some of which sold for $200+! Of course the market eventually corrects and they're back to normal pricing today.

Very recent spike in their ask/sale prices. $50 is high for those particular ones -- UM J-frame combat. K/L Boots go for the most.

To me they perform no better and no worse than Pachmayrs or Hogues, but the UMs are out of production, so...GOTTA HAVE 'EM! :D ;)

Yes, the boot grips for K-frames, particularly those for square butts, have always been harder to find and thus more valuable but these J combats are a dime a dozen (or used to be, anyway).

To me, the Uncle Mikes J and K Combats (not the boot grips) are the best available grips for those respective guns. And I have a few extras in the safe in case any wear out or I get new guns that need them ;) I just wish they'd have made N Combats in the same style.

A friend of mine recently bought several J frames and had to have some. I think I bought him 4 pair in the last 2 months-3 from ebay and 1 at a local show. All were less than $20.00

Uncle Mikes Boot Grips for J frame round butt and K frame square butt are the best grips for these firearms that I have ever encountered. See pictures below.

The one with the covered back strap is the one everyone wants. Some folks have cut down the full size but rubber is tricky and messy to finish well.

I like the UM Boot grips on my carry J frame. The S&W online price is very good although standard shipping adds $6.50.
