While out prowling the gun shops today I ran across a 242ti that looks LNIB. First one I have seen in person. Like I said its so ugly that it intrigues me. I felt the same way a couple of years ago about a Model 49 and went back and bought it. (My wife has claimed it as she likes a J frame but does not like the recoil of an air-weight)

I have searched the forum and other sources and can find little about them. Just wondering if they are collectible or are good shooters.

Thanks in advance.

I like the "Ti" revolvers.

I have a 296, 44 spl. ...

And a 337-1 38 spl +P...

Great lite carry guns but a little "snappy" to shoot!:)

If it's a good price, buy it. Lots of fun to shoot, and crazy light despite the size. They have a cult-like following around here. If you don't want it, please PM me, as I have been looking for one for quite awhile.

I have two of the 242ti's.

I find them easier to shoot than other light 38's like the 642.

The bigger k/l frame grip is easier to hold than the J grip.

Good shooters.

Nicer trigger than any of my J frames.

Recoil is no problem. Having 7 rather than 4 is nice.

I like Ahrends grips on one of my 242's.

242ti

I would buy it as a carry gun. I wouldn't buy it as a collectible.

the 242ti is a great light weight carry option for someone looking for more than 5 rounds in a J frame. the 242ti can be carried IWB, OWB or jacket pocket. IMO, it's much too large (but not too heavy) to be carried in most pants pockets, other than cargos.

Nice smooth factory trigger, accurate, and since it's an L frame, you've got plenty of revolver to put your hands on.

The factory grip is comfortable enough but you can always switch to a covered back strap for a little more cushion.

and 7 shots of .38 special +P is a comforting carry piece.

my experience as a collectible is that even though they are not common, and they are fairly expensive, they don't have the broad appeal that most other pre lock Smiths have. I'd rather invest the money in a pre lock stainless or blue K or L or N frame.

Good luck with your decision.

They handle and shoot well. If the price is fair then I'd suggest buying it and if you don't like it someone will buy it from you. I feel you will like it if you like revolvers for carry.
