I recently purchased another 686 "6" and just noticed the S&W logo is on the opposite side than my two "4" models. This is a no dash with an early serial number (AAB62XX) does it add any value to the gun, or just something they done to the earlier models?

Just something done with the earlier models before the switch to the left side. My 4" no dash is AAB91XX, purchased Sept. 1981 new by my late dad, logo on the right also. My 2.5" no dash from Nov. 1984 has the logo on the left.

...does it add any value to the gun...?

Unusual factory markings on a postage stamp will add value. Guns.... not so much. In fact, non-typical markings will often LOWER the value of a gun.

Just checked my M586 with a AAA s/n. Logo is on the right. That gun I suspect was made in 1980 or 1981. I know by 1983 L-frames had it on the left.

For some reason S&W was more likely to put the logo on the right side of N-frames, than any other frame. All thru the '80's, '90's, and 2000's, N-frames were frequently made with a right side logo.

Some guns will even have a logo on BOTH sides. Have seen a number of J-frames from the '90's marked that way.

Just for the heck of it, here's a pic of the right side logo on my 4-inch M28-2.
