Apex Tactical J-frame spring kit

I just put the Apex Tactical J-frame spring kit in my 1982 vintage S&W Model 37, and wow! The double-action trigger pull feels like it's half what it was (probably down to 9 pounds from 14), and the single action pull is less than 4 pounds. Can't wait to get to the range!

I did a similar operation on a S&W .40 VE auto last night, the Apex springs brought the pull-down from a hard 9 lbs. to about 6 lbs..

The Apex kit is one of the best investments any J frame owner can make. Seriously night and day.

If you are going to carry the gun, and your life will be dependent upon it being 100% reliable, I would re-install the original springs. S&W spec'ed the spring weight they did for good reason.

I went with the wolff springs in my 640, it also has the I.L. , plus it is my EDC. Yup, I like living on the edge.

The Apex kit is extremely reliable as well. I've owned several, and known many more who did as well without malfunction. You're looking at two very unlikely factors combined. One, you actually needing your gun, and two, a proven, reliable spring kit giving up the ghost in the course of the five trigger pulls you have.

If we're playing that game then I'd say the standard crummy modern S&W J frame trigger pull is more dangerous to you by increasing the time and strength required for accurate shots, especially when you only have five chances.

In reality neither is going to get you killed, but the APEX kit greaaaatly improves the trigger pull. It's the best $25 you'll spend on your J.

I don't knock others who swap out the factory springs but just not my cup of tea. My biggest worry would be light strikes regardless of whether this is logical or not. I learn to shoot them the way they come and don't make any changes beyond grips or a little front sight paint.

nearly ALL light strike scenarios, are from one of two situations.
#1 spring wore out past their service life
#2 military primers

factory reduced springs are NOT half used springs link blue jean that have holes put in them by the manufacturer and have that faded out dirty look.

And I imagine it is a rare find to come across mil-surp .38 special these days
