The only revolver I've hunted with so far is my 586 no-dash.
I've only taken one deer with it.
I haven't gotten seriously into hunting with a handgun, but this fall I'm going to change that.
This is my latest acquisition. I bought it over this past winter. I'm planning to hunt with it quite a bit.
My 29-3 with a Leupold FX-II 4x28 and Kurac grips.
A small late season Whitetail buck. Shot from a ground blind. Taken in the morning after a light snowfall. 5 1/2-inch Ruger Bisley .44 Mag. I think the gun was a Lipsey special in the early 2000's. 240 grain XTP and Vihtavuori N110 handload.
I handgun hunt in the past with a ruger super Blackhawk 7 1/2" barrel 44 mag and a redhawk 7 1/2" barrel in 44 mag. I just found a super Blackhawk with a 10 1/2" 44 mg cheap it's my new deer handgun. I have the 300gr jhp's and Jsp's for it. It was dirt cheap because of the tapped holes for a scope. For $329 who cares it's in excellent condition. Then midwayusa had a clearance on the shoulder holster and hip holster for $40.
A very old whitetail buck. Probably my best rack, ever. Taken during a heavy snow storm late on a January afternoon. Shot from a portable ground blind, set up in a fence row along a harvested soy bean field. The gun is a Ruger Super Black Hawk Hunter .44 Mag. The scope was a 30mm Japanese Tasco 3x, and the bullet was a 300 gr Hornady XTP. Vihtavuori N110 powder (just a great magnum powder).
You still see these Japanese Tasco scopes on eBay and they sell pretty cheap. I like the 30mm tube. The optics are awful by today's standards but good enough. It's a tough scope, the eye relief is good, the mechanics are sound and they stand up well to magnum recoil.
We got about 14 inches of snow on the day and that night I took the deer. The picture was taken a few days later, after we had dug out from the blizzard. I'm posing just with the head and the cape. Every thing else was at the locker, by this time.
Rugers are my work horses, and Smiths my show horses.
I had this 29-3 Classic Hunter hard chromed, in addition to numerous other things. Ball detente lock on crane, 11 degree forcing cone, Mag-Na-Port action job, green sight insert, etc.
Also had this one made up for a constant companion side arm in the woods, 629-2.
Of course there's a Casull in the mix. First year premier grade with all the trimmings.
And most recently I added a Ruger 480.
Numerous others, Mountain Revolver 629-2, a 25-7, Ruger Talo 45 colt birdshead, 44 Spl's. But these in the pics are the hunting specific ones.
For deer hunting, if I'm using an optic, it usually a 7 1/2 inch Redhawk with an Ultra Dot sight. Irons, usually a 629 6 inch Classic Hunter, both in .44 mag. Have used quite a few other handguns though. Shot this buck last fall with a 4 inch 629.
Wow. This deer looks MASSIVE. Body looks more like a steer. I bet some things had to be moved around to get him all in the freezer. Cute little girl, BTW. Learning not all food comes from the supermarket.

thank you Kernel. Yeah, his neck was fully swollen and was in hot pursuit of a dandy little Blacktail female at the time. First time ever shot a critter in the rut and have to say I'm still a little sorry about it. Still tasted good though.
