Decided to take my Govenor to the range with me today and a box of .45 ACP ammo.
The six round moon clip is pretty easy to snap 6 rounds into it but its a PITA to get the empty cases out of it.

What's the secret?

Google moon clip extractor tool

Dillon Precision web site has a good de-mooning tool that works to both load and unload the clips in a snap.

Should of goggled it before asking:) Found out what I needed to know and might order a demooner tool. Trying to figure out if I want to just order some 45 auto rim brass instead.
Thanks folks

For range use check out remiz moon clip. They are polymer and easy to load and unload. The model for the 625 is made to also fit the Governor

Been using the California Competition Works Moon Clip Loading/Unloading tool as featured in the Dillon Blue Press on p.58 item A for $16.95. Works VERY well.

I do have AR brass that I never used as I much prefer the full moon clips when I shoot USPSA/IDPA matches....the brass pickers LOVE picking MY brass!

No worries, I ordered some Starline 45 Auto rim brass. This seems to be the easiest solution to the entire problem as now I don't have to worry about mixing up loads with my .45 ACP's or my 45 Colt.

You can take a length of half inch PVC pipe, cut a shoulder into one half, put a cap on the other end, fits right over your 45 casings, cam the empty out, empty slides down inside....

I use a small flat blade screw driver. Pops 'em right out. Adjust my sights with the same tool.

I use the small screwdriver blade on the Swiss Army Knife that lives in my pocket. Or the Leatherman Micro tool, it has a good screwdriver blade on it also and lives on my key ring....no need to buy some expensive gadget that's not good for anything else.

BMT is far and away the best. One twist loads all 6 rounds in the clip and one twist removes all six rounds. Nothing else is even close.

Considering what you posted:
[...] is pretty easy to snap 6 rounds into it but its a PITA to get the empty cases out of it.

This is the best answer:

However, most members use metal pipe of the handle end of an old golf club. I bought similar ready made demooners from Brownells before reading here how easy they are to make. In hind sight Brownells' tube demooners were an unnecessary expense but they work well.

I find filling my moons convenient enough without tools that I'll probably never buy a gizmo for filling. If you just like gizmos and have money to burn you can spend quite a bit on the best clip fillers.

Now that I learned about .45 auto rimmed brass and found that it cost the same as .45 ACP brass from Starline I have to ask, why do you guys even mess with moon clips and tools when you can just buy the rimmed brass and load and shoot?
If you don't reload, I get it.

Moon clips reload much more rapidly than AR cartridges.
My case remover is the inside corner of a 7.62mm MG ammo can. Couldn't be simpler. Empties just fall into the box. No need to buy anything, unless you just want to waste your cash.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but .45 AR will NOT work in the Governor. Since it is primarily chambered for a rimmed cartridge, the cylinder is machined so that ACP ammo in a moon clip sits within the ridge on the outside circumference of cylinder, on which the rimmed ammo headspaces. The rim on the AR brass is much thicker than the rim on .45C or .410 shotgun ammo.

Of course now you will have an excuse to buy a Model 25/625 chambered for .45 ACP.

The absolute best moon clip load/unload tool is the BMT.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. Some misguided soul, who thinks it's easier to deal with individual cartridges rather than those linked in a moon clip, will buy the AR brass from you.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Don't mind at all there Pizza Bob that you broke the news to me the 45 AR brass wouldn't work. And I don't need anyone to buy it from me as I simply clicked to cancel the order from Midway:)

Looks like I will go back and order some extra clips and a demooning tool.
Appreciate the advice.
