Moon clips.. waste of time??

I shot my 625 at an applseed pistol clinic once. Used target loads. The MD said I was the only .45 revolver shooter he had ever seen at one. Everyone else was playing with .22s. Why? Wheres the challenge? My accuracy was fine but I didn’t have enough time to get off all my shots after a reload. I use steel moon clips. JM I ain’t. A fun day.

The 25-3 cylinder is the same dimensions and fits perfectly. Not sure if you can buy one now. I bought mine new around 1983 and the extra cylinder came with it.

If you're adding a M25-3 cylinder to an M25-2, the frame lug may have to be altered or a bevel added to the Colt cylinder, due to the head space issue.

Model19man, your cylinders were fitted at the factory.

An extra cylinder would be cool but I have 2 25-5’s. 4” and 8 3/8.
I have a 25-2 6.5 which would be nice to shoot in colt but not really a biggie I guess.

Al of you who do not like moon clips, please, pm me with a price. Or just ask for my address. I will be happy to take them off your hands, those nasty little buggers.

With 17 ACP revolvers to feed, moon clips are a help.

OK. Now I get it.
I’m thinking I have two sets of moon clips and would take longer…
Preloading before you get to the range on a bunch of clips, I now get.
If you have 10 or more sets. I now understand.
This is why I made the post. You have changed my perspective on it.
So… I need more moon clips.

I have some S&W revolvers that came in ACP and some modded to fire ACP.
I prefer the full moon but half and third can be used to cover about any scenario you might need for topping off a partially shot cylinder, etc.
When letting newbies fire my Governor, I load 2 shotshells, 2 Colt rounds and 2 ACP's clipped just to make it interesting, but if folks like punching out empties, there's mothing wrong with that either. I'm just with the load your clips and go bunch.

Yes, buying in bulk saves money and time. I buy from Ranch Products in Malinta, Ohio. When the modern full moon clip came about, S&W approached Ranch Products and commissioned them to make them. S&W supplied the specifications and the drawings. Ranch Products is still making them to the specs.

Buy as many as you think you need and then that many again.

I probably have close to 1000. Most are ready to go, some are still loaded with empties and some are empty waiting to be loaded.

A set of tools, or one tool, to load and unload them makes it very easy. I made my tools but they are available from many places. I hear BMT makes a very good loader/unloader.

Good luck! If you still don’t like them, let me know.

Kevin
