I didn't wait weeks as I sometimes do to get a new gun to the range - I shot the newly acquired 4" 686+ over the weekend to great satisfaction and delight. I meant to take and then upload pictures of the targets but I forgot to take the photos but suffice it to say the gun is everything I hoped it would be. I shot it single action, double action, 3 yards, 7 yards, and 15 years. It shot a little low and to the right and I didn't have a screwdriver with me so I adapted - I'll adjust the rear sight later. The groups I got were excellent.
Then I took an informal Texas CHL test - I had it scored by the rangemaster so it wouldn't be personal prejudice - I could see the two shots that hit the target's "right arm" when it was at 15 yards, no real surprise there, and there was another somewhere that didn't score a 5 so the overall score was 243. Not bad for the first time at the range and unadjusted rear sight.
I shot most of the rounds with .38 Special range ammunition. Then I loaded up some Hornady Critical Defense .357 Magnum ammunition. First, I noticed that the rounds went to the same place as the .38s, requiring the same Kentucky windage that I used before. I also noticed that the felt recoil was scarcely any different than the .38s - I wasn't prepared for that; I expected a little more pop than what I got but it wasn't there - NOW THAT is a fine result if I say so myself
Top drawer excellent pistol - what did I say I paid for it? I can't remember......
