I just bought a stainless Governor. I am curious as to what you all think is the the best (or preferred) ammo for this gun. For the .410, I like the Federal 000 Buckshot, so I am more curious about the .45 Colt ammo that would be effective for personal protection.

I like what I see about the Lehigh .45 Colt, but that stuff is pretty expensive. I am interested about what others think and carry.

Thanks in advance!

Try The Winchester Combo Pack

Winchester makes a special combo pack called The 20X1 410/45 Defender Stop the Threat Combo Pack containing 10 of each (410/45 LC). The 410 are 2 1/2" shells with 3 discs and 12 BB's in them, and the 45 Colt rounds have 225 grain bonded JHP bullets. The 410 rounds are what I use for in the home protection as they are very good for close up use, without over penetration should one round miss it's target.

It is actually called PDX1. I would stick with the Federal 000 buck. I back them up with 3 .45 Lehigh Maximum Defense rounds. Both are made unique for this revolver and both pack a wall up.

The Lehigh ammo looks great! I will certainly be on the lookout for it at the next gun show. Probably won't find it, so I'll order on online. In the mean time, I'll keep the Federal 000 buck in there and may get a box of PDX1 45 Colt.

I agree that the best 410 load is the Federal 000 Buck, this groups tight cluster out to 30 feet which is a good across the room size. The Lehigh Defense 45 Colt load is in a class be itself and is specific for the Governor/Judge revolvers.

My sons Judge likes 6.8 231 with a 200 jhp. Lite and accurate. I use 7.2 231 in my Vaquero. His Judge has a lot of unburned powder with this load but he only has a 3"bbl.

Take a look at Ventura Ammunition. They sell 12 rounds of Lehigh Maximum Expansion for $36.99. I paid a little over $40.00 from Lehigh. FYI.
