Default New 627 Pro Barrel Rifling Question

Hey Gang, finally purchased a new 627 Pro I have been itching to get and was not disappointed at all. It is now my favorite handgun I have, what a sweetie! Anyhow while I was cleaning it after my first range session, I did my usual barrel cleaning regiment and when I lit the barrel up with my bore light I noticed something strange, the rifling. It appears to me that the rifling is not of the normal button pull, defined lands and grooves rifling, but almost a polygonal type rifling. I have several HK's so I know that type of rifling but the the 627 not exactly like the HK but also not like my two 686's. Does anyone know what style/design it is? I could not find any details on S&W's website. Maybe I'm crazy but it sure looks different. Thanks for your input................. unless you actually call me crazy.

Without seeing a picture of the barrel in question, I bet that was ECM rifled like most modern S&Ws

Sounds like you're describing the EDM machined barrels common in many S&W but I would have assumed that the PC 627 4" Pro had the same barrel/rifling as the PC 627 5" 8-Times, like I have, which is broached & has sharply defined lands/grooves.

I just picked up a 4" barrel from a 625 45ACP. It is of recent manufacture and has rifling exactly as you describe, almost polygonal in design. You can really see it on the bullet if you slug the bore. Smoothest finish I've ever seen on a bore.

I purchased a new PC625 a few years back and it had sharp defined rifling. I sold my PC625 so I don't have it to compare rifling, but looked down the pipe many times so I know it was conventional rifling. I'll have to slug the barrel as mentioned and check it out. I wonder why S&W does not mention things like this and share with their customers. Seems odd we have to dig around in forums to find out what they have or are doing. This "Pro Series" IMHO is a much better built gun than the PC625 I had, no comparison in fit and finish.

Talking

Found two Cerrosafe casting from my current no-dash 686 and now gone 625 PC (2014) rifling. The rifling on these two are sharp rifling angles and the one from my new 627 Pro are more rounded edges, no sharp angles as it goes from lands to grooves. I thought this was very interesting, since after my first two shooting session I notices how clean my bore was, almost as nice as when I'm finished shooting any of my HK's. I'm liking it, thought I would share.
