Default XS Sights

I'm thinking about having a Big Dot sight installed on my 637-2.

Anyone out there using one on there revolver?
How do you like it over the factory sight?
If in use who installed it?

Hello there, I have xs big dots on a couple of my revolvers. I have a 386 night guard, a 325 night guard and a ruger lcr all with the night sight. I think it's a great product especially for short range target acquisition. The s&w's came with it from the factory but the ruger was installed by yours truly. I'm not a gunsmith by any means and found it to be pretty simple. My best advise is to buy it and take your time if installing it yourself. A capable gunsmith would be the obvious choice, good luck!

I use their regular dot sight on a 586 L-Comp. The Big Dot seems to be overkill, but that's just me.

It would be great except for one major design flaw in what's available for the L-Comp anyway, only the front dot is luminescent, the rear post is not. Functional in low light but could of been so much better. Works fine during the day. That rear post is luminescent for some weapons though. The 586 L-Comp comes standard with a ramp embedded front Tritium sight by Trijicon, but the dot is so tiny it is virtually worthless, and I replaced it.

Mine was installed by TK Custom.

Pic 2 is the Sight Picture you will have only yours with the bigger front dot. My front dot is out of focus.
Pic 3 was an attempt at placing the original S&W front sight on the new XS dot. As you can see, Trijicon supplies to XS System.
Pic 4 my own 586 L-Comp next to my 627 prior to the sight change.

I've had them on many guns. I have a set with tritium fronts and rears on my carry 1911, and have had them on a Ruger SP101. I am going to put a set on my 686 Plus PC (heresy!) which I also carry.

My new M66 is sitting at S&W waiting to be transformed into the revolver I paid for (not the defective yard sale looking *** I received). I just received the Weigand mini Weig-a-Tinny mount and Burris Fastfire III I had ordered for it today. While I obviously can't mount it to a gun I don't have in my possession, I hand-check its modes and operations, and it appears to me that target acquisition will not be instantaneous as with the Big Dot, and that only the low light setting results in anything resembling a red "dot," rather than a red "blur." I have the feeling I will be putting Big Dots onto the M66 eventually, too.

Don't worry too much about having a tritium rear. In a defensive situation, in all likelihood you'll only have time to put the front dot on the bad guy, anyway, and with time and any kind of light, the white rear "I" marking is very visible. In very low light, you just bring it up until the tritium dot is on the target, then fire. The SP101 had a front sight, only (integral rear in the frame), and I had no problem hitting with it.

Have you had any luck finding a front sight dovetailed for the S&W PC revolvers? I've searched forever and can't find a thing. It just leaves me scratching my head as to why they even do it when even S&W can't sell you night sights that fit that dovetail.

Yes, I forget the company, they are well known, and they do an excellent job of machining a front and rear Trijicon system. But as I remember, it was major coin North of $300. Maybe someone can jump in here. The XS System was $90 I think, the 586 L-Comp is pinned, so only $35 or $50 for installation I believe.

I agree the back post's lack of tritium is not a huge deal, but as you say in Post #4, "In very low light, you just bring it up until the tritium dot is on the target, then fire." That action would take a third of the time if the back post were luminescent and also with a back post glow your lateral alignment would be certain. In very low light, it is not certain and I am double checking that making sure the front dot is centered on the back wedge.

The J-Frame instructions call for the existing front sight be milled basically to a mounting post and the Big Dot bonded to that post. That is why I'm asking about a gunsmith, if it were pinned that would be a non-issue.

I've got a big dot on a 640-1 and 242 and love it. Installed them both myself, nothing to it. I think you may run into a slight problem with that 637-2 in that it doesn't have a pinned on front sight. They make one for non pinned front sights, but requires you to mill/file off the original, and jb weld the new one - not a great option in my opinion.

-looks like you beat me to it.

That is what's stopping me from jumping on it. I was hoping someone had done it and could give me their opinion.
