Broke down and did it. I've lusted for many years over the Blood Work revolvers, so yesterday bought the 629pc. Went right out to my mining claim with some specials and full magnums. Shot a mag first and whoa! I've shot .44 mags for 30 years and thought it'd be no problem but man did this thing rock my hand. I thought maybe I didn't grip it tightly enough so fired off another round. Yep, same thing, I had to shake my hand out and rub the pain away.
Okay, now the special loads...they were sweet. Pleased at hitting the tree branch where I aimed and it produced quite a nice splintered hole with the HP's I was using. So I went home and ordered me 4 boxes of .44 specials, having up to 530 ft lbs out the muzzle.
Best looking revolver I've ever seen, produced in 2015.
My question, the 627pc in 2.6" Anyone having one of these, does it super rock your hand in .357 mag like this .44? I'd imagine not, but what say ye?
Thanks for all input. (I'll still keep the .44, as it's main purpose was for home defense and self protection in these days of being invaded by terrorists and nut jobs)

With the PC 627 (Blood Works) revolver you mention my occasional defensive carry load is Remington Golden Saber .357 Magnum JHP at 413 Ft. Lbs. of energy. Some magnum kick for sure, border line over-powered for urban close quarters defensive carry, but a very manageable, powerful defensive load, and easy to make reasonably fast accurate follow-up shots. That Remington load may be discontinued though. Another option is the Federal Premium .357 Magnum defensive load, but at 500 plus Ft. Lbs. is probably too hot for defensive carry re over-penetration, and it kicks a little hard (not like your .44 Mag though).

For rapid fire follow-up shots that still hold a tight group I like .38 +P in either the Remington Golden Saber, or the slightly lighter but effecting Speer Gold Dot .38+P Short Barrel JHP. The bullet on the .38+P Golden Saber is different than the bullet on the Rem Golden Saber .357, and even with the lower power that .38+P has excellent expansion at the lower FPS. And that Remington +P seems to be an ideal balance of power and lighter recoil for a defensive load as is the Speer Short Barrel JHP .38+P.

For defensive carry, particularly urban, I think the .38+P is better suited re, .357 Magnum recoil, loud detonation, over penetration, and muzzle flash at night. Your ears will probably stop ringing in a day or so without damage with the +P, but setting off a .357 Magnum bomb in close quarters is something. A light .357 Magnum load is the Speer SB JHP at only 300 Ft. Lbs. of energy - but that stuff is so hard to find. I have a months and months old backorder with Midway USA for that.

With the 627, I started with American Eagle .38, moved up to the Speer .38 +P, then the .357 Magnum, then settled primarily at the Golden Saber and Speer Gold Dot +P. I use the .357 Magnum with rural carry during the day. Otherwise generally .38 +P.

Thanks for the reply Alabama. Yeah, that's why I chose the .44 over a .357, thinking about penetration. ( yet can go up in wilderness carry with my mags. So maybe I could ratchet down even to around 400 ft lbs with my 44 specials for HD. Nice to have your 8 shots though.

I have both the 629 PC and the 627 PC. the 357 feels snapper to me but both are manageable. I have VZ grips on my 629, and VZ's coming for my 627. The stock grips are too narrow for me as I have large hands.

Felt like a quicker recoil pulse to my hand, and arm. The 44 definitely has more felt push.

That's a good way to put it. I have a 629 and the recoil is a push straight back in my hand. But it is a 7.5" compensated barrel, and the compensated barrel was what I have always attributed the backwards push to. Having said that, my 586 L-Comp has a compensated barrel, and it recoils like other 34 - 37 oz. short barrel revolvers. Maybe the compensation would make a difference with hotter (500 - 700 ft. lbs.) .357 Magnum loads.

As I have mentioned previously in other posts, the 627 and 586 L-Comp have had action jobs by TK Custom. As nice as their delivered PC action was, the $150 defensive carry action jobs made a significant difference. The 686 Plus in the first picture on the far right is new and also has nice factory action, but will get the same action job very soon.

Still contemplating that 627pc too...how's it for magnums Blackgun? Maybe 70% of the kick/recoil as magnums in the 629?
Here's my 629pc.

Well I'm sure loving mine! Yeah...close to that. It's a different recoil impulse, and is subjective, but super manageable. I'd go for it and not look back. I could shoot a lot of 357 before any kind of discomfort. For my big hands, the stock grips are too thin though.

Never shot a 629 or 627, but I have an Astra Terminator 44 mag that has a 2-3/4" barrel. It's definitely a handful and you probably don't want to shoot box after box of full-boat magnums from one in a single sitting. Or at least I don't.

But a box or so is doable. Specials and light magnums (loaded just a tad above the range for specials) are a BUNCH of fun and you can shoot 'em all day long.

I've recently bought 20 boxes of the GS .357 as a hedge against the rumored discontinuing of that round. It was a poor performer in snubbies in the tests I've seen, but great out of a 4" or long barrel -- I load those in my TRR8 HD gun. I carry Buffalo Bore 20/B .38 special plus p in my 2.5" 686+ PC. That round achieves better velocity (1108 fps) in a modern S&W 2.5" barrel than does the GS round at 1200 fps in a 4" barrel, and has the Gold Dot low velocity bullet. Expensive, but worth it, IMO.

Found this Buff. Bore round, BigF.,

Thanks again all...how many times do they say you go around in this life?

I have the 629 PC and with the grips that came with the gun it was not fun to shoot, even though it looked darn good. I swapped them with some Pachmayr grips and it is night and day better. There is something cool about having a hand cannon!
