Default Warranty work on my 15-7

I sent in my 15-7 yesterday for repair work. The cylinder latch was loose even when the screw was tightened. As I fired the gun the problem would progressively get worse resulting in the latch almost falling off. I called and spoke to a rep and he said no problem I'll send you a free shipping label and we will take a look at it (he also offered to send the part but I'd rather them handle it.) ** note this is a police trade in and I am the second owner. Which I told him on the phone.. well just the second owner part. Will they fix my cylinder latch for free or charge me?? Please help. Any info is appreciated! Oh and BTW this is my first post to the forum!

Thanks Zach

15-7
Manufactured date: December 1996

My understanding is that they don't charge for repairs like that. My dad has an old gun that was used by a woman to murder her husband. The stud to pivot the hammer broke 20 years later. Shipped to S&W and they fixed it for free.

My gosh, don't let the media see this post! Can't you just see the headline…"Smith & Wesson offers free repairs on murder weapons"

It was back probably in 1962-4. I always thought when I get old and if I was bored that I would go get a copy of the transcript from the trial to put with the gun. I might get lucky and someone will archive them electronically.
