Do all 327 TRR 8 shot 5" PC revolvers handle moon clips? Or is there some that do and some that don't? Thanks in advance.

EVERY 8 shot, 357 Magnum Revolver in the model 27/327/627 family that is produced by the Smith and Wesson Performance Center leaves the factory ready for moon clips, two or three clips are provided with each revolver.

To the best of my knowledge , my 327 2" did not come from the factory with moon clips. I purchased it 2 months ago. Perhaps I overlooked them in the case it came with. I will have to recheck to see if they were supplied. What is the advantage of using moonclips anyway? I have fired several hundred rounds without the use of them and all seems to be ok. BTW, I am very satisfied with my 327. All comments greatly appreciated?

Rick

Faster unloading (all 8 rounds come out at once).

Faster reloading.

The competitive shooters usually use moon clips.

Also, there is only one type of speed loader for 8 shot Smiths -- 5 star -- and it's expensive.

The gun works fine loaded by hand without clips -- as you mentioned.

Mine is a 627.

I bought it used with box and papers, but the guy who sold it said he lost the moon clips.

I bought a batch of 50 from revolversupply.com and they work great. Just sit down the night before with the tool and load up a bunch of them and ti makes keep track of my empties a lot easier too.

8 shot 357 moon clips are much thinner than the robust .45 variety.
Fitment to different brands of brass also varies.
The clips come in .020", .022" and .025" thicknesses.
I chose the thickest and use them with StarLine, Federal and Remington cases.
Seem to fit the Federals the best.
Have only used my TRR8 for speed games so far.
For that, shorter brass is better, faster.
I cut .38 Special to .900". This is sometimes called 38 Mid.
A bit more forgiving than the 38 Short Colt and just as fast.
I load them with Bayou 160 grain bullets. Can easily flip a dueling tree at 25 yards.

Revolver Supply has good moons, try to get the .035 moons. Another source is TKCustom.com. He has a variety of moons for any brass and has the loader/unloader tool same as RS company.

I picked up a 627 PC earlier this year. Been mostly a K and L frame guy my whole life but I LOVE everything about this N frame. Fir short trips to the range, I sometimes skip the clips. However, when I want to shoot allot, or with friends, I'll bring a pile of these (which I keep preloaded.)
FWIW, I purchased my loading tool and clips from this guy. Deluxe Moon Clip Tool
I never measured the clip thickness but I can say they have worked fine with mixed 38 brass and have never bent on me at all.
The tool seems to work a bit smoother than some others I've tried.

I bought the same reloading tool and it works great!!!

So I just bought a TRR 8 shot 327pc...the gentleman said it wouldn't use moon clips...so everyone is saying that it can indeed use them (no matter which year I got) ?

We can tell you how the firearm was supposed to ship from the factory

We can not comment on what your USED gun can or can not do without handling it ourselves

A previous owner could have changed parts, swapped cylinders

Heck the Factory could have made an error and nobody asked them to fix it

If the TRR8 in your possession will not work with moon clips and no parts have been changed, then call the factory and let them fix it for you as a warranty issue

Best way it to take a pic of the cylinder and post it for us. You can tell just by looking at it.

Yeah, ok. The two photos from gnbrkr were at an angle, so I couldn't tell myself. Will know when I get it. Well, here's the angled photo, can ya'll tell?
That looks pretty tight...how about this one?

Holy Cheesecake Palomino, looks tight too. What do ya'll think? Whatever, If I can't get it done with 8, they can 86 me.
(back in the old days of Las Vegas, if someone cheated, they'd drive you 8 miles out in the desert and bury you 6' down, thus
the 86 phrase.) Anyone know what a flashlight down under for this would cost? and how many lumens it is? Couldn't find one on E bay.
Played poker today...hit a freakin strt flush on the river, QJ1098, I had J9 hearts in my hand. The board was Q,10,2 hearts on the flop, with 8 hearts on the river. I didn't see the thing and the old curmudgeon hit his straight on the turn and had the gall to reraise me on the turn, (I already had my flush, afraid he had a bigger flush so I just called) and like I said, didn't see my strt flush on the river, afraid he had the Ace of hearts, so we both just checked the river. Been 2 years since I'd hit a strt flush, but casino was paying high hand, so won enough to buy some Grizzly Ammo +P 158 grain for my new TRR 8 shot) ( I think I have a new illness.)
