**UPDATE 2: It has been a day shy of 4 weeks since I first contacted Altamont about the bogus N-frame grips they sold me. Today I finally received the replacement set. They certainly fit better and mostly how they should. However, I can see daylight between the "ears" and the frame- otherwise, the fit is not too bad. I certainly will not be buying from Altamont again, it took them a month to send me an "only acceptable" replacement. The also sent me a return label to send the bunk grips back, those will go in the mail tomorrow- a full months time faster than Altamont was able to accomplish. I look forward to finally being able to post some pics of the gun.

**UPDATE. It's now been 2 weeks since I contacted Altamont. I called back today and was told that my Return Order and new grips still had not been processed. This is BOGUS. Last week I was told the grips would be to me by monday the 2/29 but according to Sarah in customer service "they must be making them now," - thats exactly what I was told by Doug 1 week ago.

I recently bought some black checkered magnas from altamont. They are for my 24-3. I got the grips last week and they were too small on all 3 sides. Anyone else had this problem??

I spoke with Doug in customer service 1 week ago and he promised to send a new set of grips and an R/O. I haven't seen it yet and I am pretty disappointed with Altamont.

^^ they are marked "N frame" on the inside of the grip. That's not to say they weren't mis-marked in the manufacturing process.

I recently bought a set of J Frame RB to SB grips in the basketweave design, and then are just a little loose, (forward rearward shift) of about 1/10th inch or less. Since I really liked the grips I put a small amount of modeling clay in the recess, and this remedied the problem. But previous grips I have bought fit extremely tight.

Stuff happens. I wanted to order a set of Lett's style grips for my second GP100 and considered ordering a set from Altamont but decided to order a set directly from shopruger.com so that it would be 100% Ruger. I got my new grips and didn't even notice it at first, but the bottom of the rubber grip looked like someone had just used a grinder and ground off part of it. I really should have returned it to Ruger, but didn't want to go through the process of doing it. In my case it wasn't bad enough to even notice it at first look, but in your case they definitely need to go back.

Well, they are definitely not an N-frame set, was the N-sq written on the backside or machined into it? Altamont CNC machines their grips which should make them very consistent but obviously there is a human factor somewhere in the process that managed to foul things up.

Something is wrong for sure. I would give them a call again. I recently received grips from them last week, no problems they fit nice.

It's been only a week? Not being a smart aleck here, but I doubt ol' Doug got off the phone with you, walked right from his desk back to the stock room, got some new grips for you, boxed 'em up, addressed the package, and walked 'em down to shipping so they'd go out that day. It's possible, I reckon, but not probable.

Altamont is a relatively small company, but they make a lot of grips for about fourteen or fifteen kinds of handguns. They also make knife handles, rifle stocks, and archery grips.

There may be other folks in the return/customer service queue ahead of you.

Any volume manufacturer can make a mistake. Note the number of complaints about S&W's service on this forum.

Give 'em a chance before you start complaining.

In 35 years I have never yet found a set of after market wood stocks that actually fit a Smith & Wesson revolver right.I would contact kurac to see what he can offer.

My Culina grips for a K frame of mine were right the first time (and gorgeous as well).

N was machined into the back.

Altamont

I just purchased my first set of grips from Altamont a month or so ago, for a square butt K frame. Fit perfect, look great. FWIW.

Pequod.

My one experience with Altamont. I posted a photo before this post to show the result. I ordered the grips on line late on a Sunday evening. The next day I got an email saying they were out of stock but were making more and it would be two to four weeks. Did I still want them? I said yes I did and thanked them for alerting me. On Tuesday they sent a message saying the grips were being produced. On Saturday (six days after I ordered on line) the grips were delivered to my mailbox by the USPS. I was amazed and impressed and wrote them an email to tell them so.

It is too bad a customer got a grip that didn't fit but I bet the company makes it right.

Good to hear. I want to do the same with my 638. Put Square grips on it.

I have at least 10 S&W revolvers with Altamont grips. All the grips I have ordered from Altamont have been perfect and I will be ordering from them again in the future. They are a great company.

Well, they are obviously machined on the outside to fit a K-frame, I just dropped a K-sq magna on an N-sq frame and that is what it looked liked.

I am thinking they machined the backside with the intent of making them an N-sq, and then for some reason the second machining operation they got cut for K-sq instead, maybe there was a chip on the exposed perimeter or something that no longer allowed them to be N-sq's. At any rate, they got themselves confused because there was already an N machined into the backs, you ordered an N and that is what they pulled and sent you. If you talk to them again, don't just say "they don't fit" tell them they sent you a set of K's and not the N's you ordered.

I bought some Altamonts last week for my Model 69. Round to square conversion smooth Super Rosewood. They are perfect and look great. Only took a few days from ordering until on the revolver.

I just received a set of Super Rosewood Boot Grips for my 637-2 about a week ago. Altamont sent me an email saying they would be making them, and it would take 2-4 weeks, and did I want a refund instead. I got them in the mail about a week ago and they fit great! Sorry yours didn't.
