Hello all,

I recently came in possession of my grandpas S&W model 66 2 1/2 inch (I think ) and am looking for any type of holster but am having trouble finding any. I'm sure I'm just not searching for the right thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks all.

I have been using Aker leather for over 30 years at work. They make some of the best leather carry belts B-21 and holsters out there. I use their model 137 and love it

There is a very well made IWB Silent Thunder K frame holster currently for sale in the classified section.

Hi JTP18:

Welcome to the Forum. Grandpa had very good taste - I have that same revolver, mine is a Model 66-2. That particular model and 2.5 inch barrel length is very popular. Any holster that will fit a K-frame S&W revolver would work, but finding one for a 2.5 inch barrel can sometimes be difficult. A holster that will hold a 3.0 inch barrel would work just fine, it will just be a bit longer than the barrel, but no one will notice. One solution would be a Don Hume JIT slide:

J.I.T. SLIDE [J.I.T. Slide] : Don Hume Leathergoods, manufactures high quality leather and nylon goods.

Best of luck,

Dave

go to ebay and key in K frame holster....there will be LOTS of them. Refine your search by barrel length. Still a number of them.

Contact Lobo Gun Leather. It'll be custom made and usually only a 4 to 5 week turn around. Won't break your wallet either.

I carry my 4 inch 66-2 in a "GS2" from R. Grizzle . Ryan will expedite your order for a fee and IIRC he also offers a military discount. I can attest that Ryan makes high quality holsters. The Georgia Snap 2 is very comfortable, allows for easy reholstering, can be put on and taken off quickly, and pulls that big square butt in tightly against your body. With the shorter barrel on your 66, you can probably get away with his high riding "HC" holster, too.

Another option I don't think anyone has mentioned is a shoulder holster. I just ordered a "Springbreak" with speed strip pouches and an offside sheath for my BR Bravo 1 from Andrews Custom Leather for this same revolver. But I won't be able to comment on it for a few months.

I picked up this Gould & Goodrich for around $25 on eBay last year, great quality. I am a southpaw but there are plenty of good deals on Ebay.

Like GunarSailors I bought the Gould & Gouldrich for around $25. Like the 3 slot pancake holster that allows two positions of the revolver. With the cant forward position being my favorite, keeping the grip closest to the body and making it harder to see under your shirt.

Midway sells this Bianchi for a very reasonable price. Great holster for a great price.

Any holster for a..... 2 1/2", S&W K-frame .....will work.........

. . . . or any holster for a 3" K frame will work. A holster a half inch too long will not make any difference.

AND, if you later get a 3" gun, you will already have a holster that fits.

Also recommend staying away from nylon holsters with no retention straps and cheap belt clips, which is the situation with about 90% of them.

Nylon holsters are slick inside, and with no retention strap the gun can " squeeze out " pretty easily, and belt clips without an actual " full curl hook " like Galco uses will not stay put either.

My 2-1/2" 66-3 rides very nicely in a Galco Combat Master. It's an affordable and readily available OWB, strong side, high rise pancake with an adjustabl retention device.

You need to look for a K frame 2.5" holster. 66 and model 19 are interchangeable. Everyone who makes revolver holsters makes one for this gun.
