Smile NEED HELP WITH A S&W 586-2

I bought this gun many many years ago at a trolling motor shop in Mobila Al, The guy was trying to raise some money to buy a trolling motor for his boat. Paid $250.00. It is a beautiful gun a 357 magmum with a very high gloss finish on it. Sort of a dark black blue finish. It has some Altomont black & grey grips on it. Ser#BAD7186 MOD#586-2. With a six inch barrel. Can some one tell me what year it is and how much it might be worth. Thanks for your help.

586-2 was made circa 1987-1988.
Gotta love the BAD prefix and that should date to somewhere between Jan. (AYM) and July (BBF) 1988.
Value? Without pictures but assuming excellent condition maybe $600 plus or minus $100 depending on location, selling face to face or an auction, and box or not.

My local gun stores and pawn shops would probably hand a tag of $650 on it.

Is that a 4-inch or 6-inch gun? Product code? There were some nickel M586's made with that prefix too.

Welcome to the Forum. The Model 586 and 686 (stainless steel version) are excellent firearms. I would agree that the $600.00 - $700.00 range is a good ballpark estimate assuming good to excellent condition. You can add maybe an additional $50.00 if you have the factory box, documents and tools. The 6.0 inch barreled models tend to not sell as well as the 4.0 inch barreled versions - unless the buyer is a hunter or target shooter.

Regards,

Dave

The SCoSW says the 103533 is a 4-inch M586 Blue (B) gun with Target Stocks (TS) and a Red Ramp (RR) insert on the front blade. The exact same gun with a White Outline (WO) rear sight blade is the 103534. Your gun should have an all black rear blade.

The interesting thing, to me, is yours is the fist 103533 I've ever seen. I've seen lots of the 103534's, but none like yours with the black blade. They must of not made a lot of that variation. And "no", it doesn't make your gun more valuable. Its just a S&W trivia thing.

Does it have a White Outline (WO) rear sight, or is it a plain black blade?

100% correct. I just found this the end of January. No top strap erosion, nearly unfired (not anymore)

Not a great picture but here it is.

It's a plain black. And the black is very shiney. I bought a 629-1 & 586-2 the same day. I paid $450.00 for both guns they look unfired both are immacculate condition. Just happened to be at the right place at the right time. We were going to buy some ammo and this guy approached us about buying them.

If that gun showed up in the shop I work at the price would be at least 1200, and it would sell.

Kernel...I know this thread is a couple years old but it's only post I can find where Product Code 103533 on a Model 586 is found. Attached is picture of box with this code but also showing a 5" barrel. Would appreciate comment(s).
