S&W Model 500 ES Emergency Survival Kit
Hello, new member here. I've been seeking information on the 500 ES Emergency Survival kits. Are they rare? When, and how long were they made? What is the going prices for NIB kits?
At some point, I'd like to purchase one.
Thanks,
Al

you might try looking in the completed sales of Gunbroker.com & other on line web sites to find an idea of what they are going for... & what others are hoping they'll drag out of them... they are seldom if ever seen in mid-Missouri....
Heck there's a guns for sale board here too. you might look there or post a WTB ad on that section.. hope this helps you out, sorry I couldn't do more for you.

I was tracking one at a recent Rock Island Auction ( closed auction)
It had all the original ES Kit/Bear gun items, description claimed it to be unfired, with original shipping container, -- hammered at $1900
Don't know actual production numbers.

Asking and selling are two different things.
Typically sell from $1750 to $2100

Years ago CDNN used to sell the kits with everything except the revolvers for really good prices. I wish had bought a couple.

In the downloaded S&W catalogs I have, I only see them listed in 2007.
Emergency Survival Kits - 2007.pdf
The 500ES had a MSRP of $1399 in it.
My 500ES was made in Mar-2007.

The only person who can answer the question of whether they are worth it is you. I bought my 4" 500 S&W for carry in the woods, and in my not so humble opinion, the other stuff in the kit is fluff. On the other hand, given it's limited manufacture status, as an investment (which means sticking it in a safe and not using it), it could be a good purchase, as prices on S&W items seems to be steadily increasing. Bottom line is it's all up to you.

While I think the package is cool, I'd never spend that kind of money on a lock gun that could be re-released tomorrow if S&W wanted to. Not a good investment IMO.

S&W has made different models that they only made a limited amount of. Don't think that rates them as BIG FAILURES? At least they used to try different things.
It's weird, that page #9 in the 2006 paper catalog is not the same as the one in the on-line digital 2006 catalog I have on my computer.

What I am getting at is the 500es wasn't a limited run, it was made for 3 years and they only had demand for LESS than 500 and the resale price dropped dramatically after issue. That's why it is sooooo collectable now.

I wanted one of these so bad when they were in stock at my LGS. I should have made that happen. I've wanted a 500 period since they came out... But still don't have one. Almost bought a used 8" 500 locally for $850 last month, but ended up with a 329PD because I didn't want to pack a huge hogleg around while backpacking. Had the 500 been a 4" model for that price, I would have bought it. That's the one I want anyways.
I can't imagine even the 500ES being any more BRUTAL to shoot than the 329PD is. OUCH!!!

Hardigg cases.
It now looks like Hardigg & Pelican are together (merged?), so YES.
