I took my 431PD to the range today, and finally got a chance to try it with Buffalo Bore's 100 gr JHP 32 H&R Magnum ammo.

The ammo seemed accurate and hotter than other H&R rounds I've tried.

But, like another forum member, I found the empty cases stuck in the gun.

Four out of 6 came out fairly easily, but two only were pushed out part way. I pried them the rest of the way out with my car keys.

Then I tried 32 ACP in the 431PD. The only 32 ACP I could find in my ammo cabinet was a box of Blazer Aluminum.

Well, the 32 ACP Aluminum rounds had light strikes and didn't fire in the 431PD. None of them fired.

The 431PD is 100% reliable with the 32 H&R Magnum and 32 S&W long, but is 100% unreliable with 32 ACP.

Then I switched to my M31-1. In that gun, the 32 ACP Aluminum rounds shoot just fine. Accuracy is OK. Extraction is OK.

And no light strikes with the 31-1 for the whole box -- including the FTF rounds from trying the 431.

I also shot my M60-15.

First with 357 Magnum Blazer Aluminum. That felt like a hot 38 Special. Reasonable accuracy, good extraction, all-in-all a good practice round.

The Blazer Brass 357 is significantly hotter. Not very much fun.

Shot 4 cylinders worth of Blazer Brass, and that was enough, thank you very much.

Tried a cylinder worth of 357 Magnum Gold Dot 135 grain also in the 60-15.

The Gold Dots were between the two Blazer types in recoil, and reasonable to shoot. Good accuracy. This will probably be my carry round at some point.

My cure for sticky cases in a 432PD was what Buffalo Bore suggested - polish the chambers.

I used a 1/4" diameter felt drum on a Foredom tool (flexible shaft - use a Dremel if it's what you have) with Flitz polish. About a minute in each chamber. After polishing, the walls were shinier than they were to start with but still not a mirror finish. Nevertheless, at the next range session the BB +P loads, that had been extremly hard to extract before, came out just like any other brass. Problem solved, at least in this gun.

Thanks.

I don't have a Dremel or anything similar.

I think for now, I'll just set the Buffalo Bore aside and use either the 100 gr Georgia Arms JHP, or the 80 gr Critical Defense for my carry load.

Just FYI, the GA Arms load averaged 895fps for 178 foot pounds of energy, while the Hornady 80g Critical Defense went 978fps for 170 foot pounds.

These are all through the 432PD, although on different days so exact distances to the chrono might have varied a tad. Still, I'd say the Hornday and GA Arms loads were roughly equivalent in energy, while the Buffalo Bore is substantially more potent. Felt that way when shooting 'em, too.

On other point that might be of use.

When I loaded 6 of Buffalo Bore 32 h&r mag, I fired 5 and checked the 6th.

No crimp jump visible with this 13 oz gun.

I wonder why the 31-1 shoots 32 acp so well and the 431PD gets consistently light strikes.

Both work reliably with 32 S&W long and 32 H&R (in the case of the 431PD)

The best thing i have found for the 431 Pd is to sell it to me haha .

I have both the 431PD and the 432PD, and I use my developed load, the Hornady XTP 100 gr over AA#5 which chrono's 1004 from the 2" barrel (and 1224 through the 6" 16-4). I get no difficulty of extraction, and recoil is not bad at all.
