Question Model 586 Limited Edition

Greetings everyone, I just joined yesterday and I thank you. I have a 586, 8" in 357 Magnum Limited Edition with grooved grips and rings slots on the rib. It's a beautiful revolver which I bought new around 1994. Unfortunately, I moved the following year and I cannot find the original box with the rings that came with it. I am now 69 years old and need a scope to enjoy the revolver. I contacted S&W last year to buy new rings but was informed they do not make them. Anyone has the same revolver and suggest an alternate scope mounting which will complement the 586 Limited? Thank you

Welcome to the forum! The rings were proprietary and are no longer made by S&W. Your best bet is to turn your home inside out looking for your originals. Then check eBay and Gunbroker, but you're hoping that someone else sold their gun without the rings and later found them and decided to sell them. Any S&W revolver can be drilled and tapped for a scope mount, so that's a decent last resort. The beauty of the original setup is that you could quickly remove a scope to use iron sights, then replace the scope with little loss of zero. Good luck, and post a photo of your 586, we love photos!

The rings were made by Millett and are no longer available from any primary source. Your best bet would be to search the auction sites (both general and firearm specific) to try and find a set in the secondary market.

Do a search on this forum and you may find some good info. Some have had success modifying a set of Millett Angle Lock rings, but it won't be easy.

Good luck.

Adios,

Pizza Bob
