Default What is the story with the 4.25" barrel on the new Model 66?

So what is the story with the 4.25" barrel on the new S&W Model 66? Why the extra quarter inch?

I notice Safariland has tooled up to offer duty holsters for this gun which can only mean that some agency placed a large order for them (they require a large order to make a mold).

Who is using them?

This may be in order to comply with Canadian rules than an handgun must have a barrel length greater than 4".

Nailed it.

Ruger has been using 4 5/8ths inches for years to allow Canadian sales of their single-action revolvers.
I'm very surprised it took S&W this long to as the extra quarter inch to their barrels.
