A very interesting Saturday was had this past weekend. Took the wife to get her hair done around Boston, so figured I'd take the 3 hours it takes to do and visit the local gun stores in the area. I've never been to them down there so figured it would be a good way to kill the afternoon.

As I was looking around one of them I seen this very nice looking S&W revolver fashioned in an older style. It peaked my curiosity big time and asked to see her. Come to find out she was a S&W Model 22 Thunder Ranch revolver in 45ACP. A reproduction of the 1917 version that was designed by Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch in 2006. Blueing was immaculate. It was a consignment piece for what I considered a decent price, though I did have to haggle a little which brought the price down another $100.

Wasn't any saying no to that and a short time later, she was on her way home with me. Can't wait to hit the range with this!



Though I will say the grips are a little small for me. So I swapped them out with a set of traditional target grips. The gun feels better in my hand with these on.

I'm with you on the grips. Very individual thing, and I never thought my hands were overly large, but I will admit that the hand-filling grips end up on the frame more often for me.

You should take wifey to get her hair did more often! Nice find!!

I told someone on another thread that S&W revolvers in calibers starting with a .4 do NOT have to be .44 Magnums to be wonderful.

I saw that...and as a .44 mag lover I am hurt.

Oh I have to agree. Have dueling 629s w/ unfluted cylinders. Love 44, but some 45 loving is soon to be had.

Ill be honest not a huge fan of theres , ive tried to do buisness there a few times and lets just say they make it hard to spend money with them

You know it's funny you say that as there was one guy there I wasn't getting a good vibe from. Luckily he wasn't the guy I was dealing with, but he injected himself into my discussion with the other sales guy. He kept saying the price was a great deal when I asked if it was the best price on the consignment. Since it was consignment I know there's always some wiggle room so I offered $100 less then the price tag. This "other guy" told my salesman that it was a waste of time even asking and to not bother. I asked him to check anyway, which he did with the owner. He came back saying "deal". This other guy got a little pissy about the whole sale muttering someone must have been desperate and could probably have used that other $100.

Honestly didn't bother me as I'd have had no problem walking. I can haggle with the best of them so I know it's all a game. Though I did get special pleasure at the guy's attitude when the deal was done.

Have to ask then why you would inject yourself into a conversation I was having with another salesman? I get you want to make the most money for your business, but it could have gone the other way and lost business instead. Unless your shop is doing so good you can potentially turn away business I don't get your comments. I have to assume it's because haggling is frowned upon, but I've yet to buy a consignment piece without some back and forth on price.

I was lucky enough to find a used Thunder Ranch 22-4 a few years ago too. Mine is a very early production gun which came from the factory with an incorrect front sight and the barrel was slightly canted to the left. It shot a couple feet low at 50 feet.
S&W has a service campaign for this defect and they sent me a shipping label, fixed the gun and had it back to me in under two weeks, no charge. She is one of my favorite revolvers!
