I recently purchased a new old stock S&W model 610.It is from an estate sale never been fired.I've put about 1000 rounds thru it since I bought it.The cylinder has always been hard to open but today it seemed no matter what I do it won't open.Is there something I should be looking at? Thanks in advance

Sounds like your ejector rod has loosened and backed out a little. Try wedging a piece of wood on the bottom side of the knurling between the rod and the ejector housing and turn the cylinder (left hand threads). Once you get it out take the rod all the way out and put a little blue Lo-Tite on it

Check to see if the ejector rod is starting to unscrew. Same thing just happened to me yesterday with my 360J.

You might want to use the research (google) "button" at the top of the page and enter some key words there as there are a number of posts about this issue. Your ejector rod may have come loose and is preventing opening the cylinder. If so, you may be able to tighten it enough with thumb/finger pressure to allow the cylinder to open. On the other hand, it may be another issue. I pulled a pre-24 out of the safe last night that I hadn't shot in years and could not open the cylinder. Tried the ejector rod tightening routine but that didn't help. Took the thumb piece off, squirted a little Rem oil in, tightened it back on. . . .and the cylinder opened. Magic, sort of. Good luck.

Try tightening the extractor rod first. If this doesn't do it, remove the thumb piece and use a bit of oil on the bolt. If this still doesn't solve your problem, pop the side plate and check if the front leg on the bolt is rubbing on the hammer, if this is this is the problem, a slight bit of stoning on the tip of the leg should solve the problem. If you have a problem with popping the side plate, take your revolver to a good smith and I'm sure it will be fixed without too much cost.

Ejector rod -- yup my 617 does the same thing.

Rather than loctite I just snug it up each outing. Usually it is ok but sometimes it needs about 1/2 turn.

If I were to resort to loctite I would use the purple species.
