Default Laser is spotty on a new 38 special

38 Special 638-3 +P w factory laser 1.75" barrel

Owned this 3 months, never shot it yet. Heading to the range today and realized the laser is spotty at best (intermittent, unstable on/off) Figured it might be the battery so made a stop at Cabellas and the take a number was 30 people deep.....

Anybody know what/where to get a battery? a specific battery number ID would be cool. Is this normal? Of course it worked perfectly in store and the first week I had it.

Hard to replace?

On a side note Im not crazy about the rubber grips but it looks like the laser is built into the rubber.

Sorry if these are newbie questions but thats why Im here

Any help appreciated.

I think I just figured something out lol

Seems like to activate you squeeze the grip
The genius at Cabellas told me you pull back the trigger a tiny bit
No wonder Im confused, this makes a lot more sense from a safty standpoint

On a side note how do you know about battery replacement, Im assuming the laser just doesn't work and then its obvious

If it is a Crimson trace grip, look for two small holes in the
grip. The appropriate allen wrench can be used to adjust it.
Holes will be close to the laser.

Is the laser red, or green? The green lasers use up the battery MUCH faster than a red laser.

Red Crimson Trace, love this thing.
Went to the range last night, first 10 shots just off center target at 25 feet.
Need to shoot some more to be sure, but might just leave it alone.

I have the CT boot grip type on my 640-1. I find it can be a little tricky to get my grip on it to reliable activate...The Cabelas employee said to pull back on the trigger a bit to activate the laser??? WOW, just WOW!
