Hi! I know the right grip often comes down to what feels good in the hand but I was hoping someone could tell me which Altamont grips they prefer between Altamonts bateleur conversions and conversion targets. Recently picked up some Altamont combats for a 642 pro series and I am very pleased with them. Now I'm hunting for new shoes to put on a 686-6 and a 629-5 and looking for any feedback on the above two grips. Thank you!

I can't make a comparison between the two, but I recently put a set of Altamont Conversion Targets on my 6" 686-6. They fit my large hands well, but because of the way they swell outward from top to bottom someone with smaller hands may not be able to get their pinkie finger comfortably around the grip. As with all Altamonts I've encountered, the fit and finish is superb, and I really like the classic look the Targets lend to a long-barreled revolver.

I have a set of Altamont Combat Grips on my 2-1/2 inch 686-4 that I really like and I've been looking at the Bateleurs for my 4" 686-5.

I got decent size paws so not too worried about getting them around the targets. But I love the palm swells of a bateleur. I'm leaning towards targets for the 686 and bateleurs for the 629 unless anyone could give me a good reason to reconsider that.

I put the Target Conversion stocks on my N-frame 625-9 "Mountain Gun" and I think they are perfect. I like the looks of Bateleur grips but questioned whether the finger grips would be right with my hand. I figured I wouldn't have that problem with the Target Conversion stocks.

Here are some pics of my "Mountain Gun."

Here are the new Altamont Conversion Target grips on my 686-6.
These grips were made by Altamont exclusively for TALO distributors for their 686 Deluxe and don't appear on their Web site.
I liked them Smith & Wesson was willing to sell me a set they had in the warehouse.:

My 686-4 wearing Altamont Combats.
It features the same snake-scale pattern that comes on the Conversion Targets, above:
