I love my Smith Wesson revolvers. I currently have a 627 Pro, 686 snubnose and a 586 newer model. However, I'm looking to add a Night Guard (either 386 or 327) to my revolver collection. What's a fair price for either one of these 2 discontinued Smithy's? Thank you in advance.

The 357 Magnum NG's are in demand right now, so people are asking anywhere from $1200-$1500. I think a fair price for a 327NG in Excellent condition should be about $1000 to $1100...and pretty much the same for the 386NG.

Right now on GB there are one of each, and both are asking about $1400, and the 386NG has a BIN price of $1500. I think the 327NG has been up there for months, and the 386NG for a month or so..But nobody is buying even if they're watching. I would not pay that much unless I was looking at a PreLock Smith. They are special, but that's just too much. I have a LNIB 329NG on layaway...It went for $950 and I still owe about half on it. I thought that was a fair deal.

Now there is a possible decent deal on a 327NG on GB, four days left on an auction, no reserve, starts at $750. Gun is listed as Good Condition. No action yet, but I think there will be bids.

Czechvar, thank you for sharing. I was considering a 586 L Comp but was attracted to the Night Guards with the light weight scandium frame. I wonder how much more kicks would there be with the light frame?? I'll probably shoot 38 special ammos mostly.

I suggest you rent to shoot a 327 before buying one. You just might change your mind about owning one. The 327 mag is one hard kicking little round. It is said the recoil is less than a 357 but I wouldn't say by much if any. In a really light gun you should expect a real surprise.
I had an SP101 327 for maybe 6 months before selling it. I don't miss it at all.

The 327 Night Guard is actually a .357 Magnum caliber revolver. The "3" being for a Scandium/Titanium frame, and the "27" for being an N frame in 357 caliber. It has plenty of recoil with warmer loads, so shooting one before buying is still good advice.

As far as value the 386 will probably be a little more costly and harder to locate, than the 327, from my experience looking at both. The 386 would be almost perfect for carrying a very light weight, 7 round, 357. I recently scratched my NG itch with a 325 Night Guard which was on a local forum for $800. I would buy a 386 though if one came up reasonably priced.

What was the original msrp for the 327 & 368 when they were in production? Anyone knows?

I've heard actual prices were around $900-$1000, but there were so many different models. I'm only interested in the 357 Mag and 44 Mag. I have no idea what most of them were marked at.

I recently sold a 327 NG, that was mint in the box for $1,000. I'd never pay that much for one, but the fellow was thrilled to get it at that price.

I'm still on the look-out for a .357 Magnum Night Guard too but they're far & few between or asking too much.

My guys are getting lonely... they need a little NG they can boss around. :(

Bluedot37, what a collection!! I'm curious....what's the price you would pay for a 368 and a 327?

I tried to sell my 386 NG for three+ months, on consignment at a local shop. We asked $900 but didn't get a single serious buyer. I wouldn't go any lower so I brought it home.

I invested in having the cylinder modified to take Moonclips and am trying to get it to reliably set off primers without the factory 16# DA trigger pull.

Now that I've invested even more in the gun I probably can't sell it all. That's why I'm working so hard to get it to function. I'm on my 4th mainspring, 3rd strain screw and second firing pin. The work continues.

Bluedot37, I asked the question because I've been talking to a seller of a 327. At the end, he wanted $1200 while I did offer him $1k. I'm in CA so unfortunately I can't buy it from out of state dealer since it's not on California roster. :-(

Kali makes everything more difficult. If it's in Excellent shape you might be better off just paying the Kali Premium Price and be done with it. That's still better than the GB prices.

Sucks to say that, but that whole Roster business should be ruled Unconstitutional.

Why are you going through main springs like that?

Wolf reduced power ms, 11 lb rebound spring, adjust strain to +/- 8lbs and be done. That will be your limit (8lbs) on a non modified hammer and factory ammo. Any questions pm me and I'll give you my email address so we can chat.

Groo here
Make sure you have a longer firing pin like a C&S one.

The extended is not needed. The best thing, if you're going to order an aftermarket pin, is the Apex (OEM length) with reduced spring weight.

Silly me, I installed the Apex extended pin. But then I got tired of having to hit the primers in factory ammunition 2, 3 and for a few rounds 4 times before they went off. This was with the Wolff reduced power main spring.
