Default Model 36-7

I'm looking at a nice 36-7 and was wondering what years the -7 variant was manufactured?

About 1991 to 1994 for the -7. In that era. The new J-magnum frame was introduced in 1994/95, so that's when the M37 would of got a new dash number (if it was in production then).

Thanks Kernel. In the pics I saw it looks like it has a smooth MIM trigger with a regular hammer and hammer nose. No lock of course so I was guessing later 90s.

I have a -7 that was dated middle 1996. Firing pin on hammer, no lock, smooth trigger Great shooter. Had UM grips on it that got repurposed to a 640

That's very late for a -7. If you had a picture of the box label I'd like to see it.

No box or label. I posted here and was given the date by SN. So the info could be wrong.

Default Model 36-7

Digging through the safe I pulled out my model 36-7. S/N BRE61**. Firing pin on hammer, smooth trigger. I bought this new. The trigger is polished and not mim. I can't remember but this might be the 36 I had a trigger job on. The trigger is original and the same gunsmith may have polished the trigger. The trigger is my confusion. Any help on approximate date of manufacturing and the trigger. I do have a 442 ported with a trigger polished from the S&W custom shop.

I've seen a 36-7 dated as early as March 1991. The 36-9 (J-magnum frame) replaced the 36-7 in 1996 and was the first to have MIM hammer and trigger.

The smooth combat trigger came out in 1988 on the 36-2 and was used on all the 36-x's through the -8 3" (also on the -9, but MIM).

The big change in the 36-7 and -8 was the wider front sight, which is really an improvement over it's predecessors all the way back to 1952.

Hope this helps,

Bob
