Default 460XVR 10.5" Performance Center Pawn Shop

I went and looked at local pawn shop that has a 10.5" performance center 460XVR. I'm interested in one but really want a 7.5" as that 10.5" barrel looks to be too much to handle.

First impression after picking it up is that it is, in fact, extremely nose heavy to the point of quick fatigue trying to hold it steady. I was surprised that the perf. center action didn't feel any better than my decent out-of-the-box post lock models. I wasn't really impressed and figured I'd be getting a spring set and doing a trigger job immediately if I bought it.

That brings me to my question. This gun has some visible wear. It doesn't appear a lot of rounds have been fired but it had some sort of sling attached at the front pin hole and the right side of the revolver has about 1/2" x 1/2" blob of surface wear that is shiny and blackened from metal-to-metal rubbing. It doesn't feel like it is deep and I wonder what could be done to clean it up. Scotch Brite? There are a couple of other light dings and scratches but they are very minor.

Assuming I could live with a 10.5" barrel, I'm settling on what I don't exactly want. It would have to be a GREAT deal for me to consider it but I doubt the pawn shop is going to budge that much. They want 1300 for it and I've seen some 7.5" for right at that or close to it. That seems way high given the condition.

If I offered 950 for it would that be too much/too little?

These X frames are often available with less than a box of ammo down range: folks find they’re not as much fun to shoot as they imagined.

I’d give nothing extra for a performance center version compared to non performance center model.

Since this isn’t really the gun you want, I’d offer them $800 cash

There’s a very good chance they’ll have this gun in the shop for a long time if they stick to their price.

Forget it. Get the gun you REALLY know you want and don't look back. You'll be thanking yourself in the long run.

The last 10.5" I purchased used in box near mint on Gunbroker was $1000.

While I really like the X-frame I would urge you to the model you want.

You will find little difference in the triggers in my opinion between the PC models and the stand 8 3/8" model.

That said in most cases any of these can be made to have a great trigger.

If you just have to have a PC version look at the new 7.5" - the carry much better in the field. Don't get me wrong I have used the 10.5" in the field and they work fine just more to manage.

Good luck and be safe

Don't be so sure... The 460XVR can also chamber the .45LC or even the old .45 S&W, (maybe the .45 ACP as well with moon clips?) ergo even if the owner didn't care for shooting .460 S&W Magnum, he had other options which he may have shot quite a bit of before selling it.

Folks often presume that most of not all used Magnum Revolvers have very few rounds through them and were sold because the owner couldn't handle the recoil, but folks forget that pretty much every Magnum Revolver out there can chamber other rounds as well with much less recoil, (.357s can chamber .38 Spl, .44 Mag can chamber .44 Spl, .454/.460 can chamber .45s, etc) ergo it's unwise to presume that a Magnum Revolver has a very low round count until it has been examined.

I agree. I'm not going to talk myself into it and regret it. I'd be just as happy with the non performance center and shorter barrel and do my own trigger job. And it'll be new.

Thanks for setting me straight, gentlemen.

While it may have been fired with 45 colts or 454 Casulls, neither of them are real cheap or real hard on an X-frame. If you don't reload or have a bunch of money to blow on ammo thee big bore ammo gets spendy and the novelty wears off and off to the pawn shop it goes. If your selling your guns at a pawn shop your not a good money manager.

But, I digress, get the gun you want.

I'll pile on, too.

That's a ridiculous price for a used one with the long barrel.

I bought the 500 like that the first year they were out. I'm happy I got it, but I'll readily admit it doesn't see daylight as often as most of mine. I don't believe I'd shoot it more if it had a shorter barrel.

That price is right about the norm. I tracked used prices for a while but I was really looking for a 12" XVR. I ended up just buying new. Most 460's reguardless of barrel length typically are in excellent condition, and fetch about $900 used.

Thanks again, gentlemen. I'm not going back. It's used, has some wear on it, and isn't exactly what I want. I'll find what I'm looking for, eventually.

Given that I shoot .50BMG at $2 a round, 460 doesn't scare me. I'll buy a few boxes over time and start reloading once I have enough brass.

The novelty of my .50s (i have more than one) haven't worn off yet but then I have a LOT of choices in the safe and most don't go to the ranch more than 3 or 4 times a year for a solid session and a good oil/cleaning and back to the safe. I try to give them all the love they deserve but it's tough when you have to look after so many.
