Has anyone seen the solid orange blade sight for sale anywhere.

Google search turns up nothing.

That same orange blade was used on a M629. The product code for that gun was 170334.

You could call S&W customer service. Ask them to pull up the parts list for that pc, then ask for the part number for the front sight blade.

Then offer to buy that part number. Be nice and there's a good chance they'll send you one for free.

It is just a piece of plastic - nothing special and quite delicate. My 686-6 came from the factory with it broken off. The factory took a few weeks to send a new one out, saying they were waiting for parts, so I'm guessing they don't make them. While waiting, I decided to put an aftermarket replacement on mine.

Hi,

I am new to the forum and love the front sight on your PC 686. Could you tell me where you got it? Just went to pick mine up last night and unfortunately it broke during shipping

Thanks,

Matt

Picked mine up this afternoon 686+ PC with the 2 1/2 barrel .. Everything
looked good on it .. what was broken on the sight ??

The orange sight had cracked around the roll pin. It looks like several other had the same issues with the 4 inch and 5 inch versions

Tom,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize the sights were the interchangeable DX type. It looks like HiViz and Dawson Precision both make sights that will fit.

I found the orginal part number from S&W is 249650000

Your 686 sight is different then the one on my 686+ PC 2 1/2 inch barrel ..

Mine is steel with the angled ramp being orange in color .. looks pressed in like other S&W sights .. Was yours a fiber optic sight ??

It is a single piece of orange plastic that rests under spring pressure against the roll pin. It looks like it doesn't take much additional pressure to cause it to crack

I like the Hi Viz on my 625 JM. Will eventually get 1 for my 686 Pro Series. Bob

Does anyone know what the height of the original orange sight is? The Hi-Viz and others seem to have 2-3 different heights. My 5" 686+ PC hits dead on as sighted, and I would really hate to screw it up. Many thanks!

The 5" 327 JM came with both the Light Gathering Orange front wsight and a gold bead.

I only use the gold bead.

With so many models being supplied with this sight blade, I have got to believe that Smith & Wesson has some of these that are available or at least can be ordered

Thanks, I'll definitely try to do that. I do still need the height of the original orange blade, as I'm looking to get a gold bead and a tritium fiber optic. Hi-Viz lists three heights, and the most popular seems to be .250, but I can't find any info on the height for this one.

I know it's an old thread... but I joined just to answer this question because I myself was trying to find this answer.

It must be a national secret because in lots of discussions on lots of forums nobody ever says specifically what the sight height is.

I recently got a 4 inch 686 PC and immediately set out to get a better front sight (one that isn't plastic)...I decided on the HiViz H3 hybrid sight.... and the correct sight height is .250"....I measured the orange sight on mine at exactly .250"...I had to get a new battery for my calipers before I could measure it, that's why I didn't just measure to start with.

Love the H3, easy to see day or night, and the gun still hits to point of aim.
